Editing video from Samsung Galaxy S6

Post by markpritch »

Hi guys
I have downloaded several clips of video from my wife's Samsung Galaxy S6 phone. They are each around 1-2 minutes and vary from 150mb-250mb in .mp4 format.
When viewed individually on my pc, directly from the downloaded clips, they all fill the screen.

One clip, however, when processed through VSX9pro, is shown as a very small picture in the middle of the screen, whereas all the others are full size.

On the one that is small my wife started to shoot the video in Portrait mode and, very soon after starting the video and without stopping the video, turned the phone 90 degrees to a Landscape setting.
Could this have affected the size of image being displayed when made into an mp4 video clip together with all the other individual clips?
If so, is there anything I can do to display this clip in full screen once it had been joined with the other clips?

I have tried editing out the part that is in Portrait made but the remainder (approx 99pct) still appears as a very small picture in the middle of a large black-background screen.
Help!!

Many thanks
Mark

Sorry, I forgot to mention, because VSX9 first registers this clip as 'portrait', when it fills the screen top to bottom with wide black bands, I have had to 'rotate left' the clip to then view the remainder as 'landscape'. This is when the view shrinks the scene to the middle of the screen.
Thanks

Hi again
Posting the follow-up to my query gave me food for thought and I have now edited the clip in order to take out the 'portrait' section prior to inserting it into VSX9 so that I do not have to rotate the clip.
This seems to have done the trick! I have rendered just this clip and it plays perfectly, so keeping fingers crossed that the full video will be ok.
Sorry to have troubled you, but had I not put this into words I probably will not have come up with the solution.
Many thanks

Not that it will help you this time, but some recent smartphones -- after the Samsung Galaxy 6 I am pretty sure -- now incorporate an automatic use of full landscape mode even when the phone is held in portrait mode. But I am also pretty sure this is only found at the pricey end of the smartphone market...
