How to add a gradual blend in to PinP?
Hi, with the a video in the main track, I want to bring on selected area of photo (say a head), so that the selected area has a gradually blend into the video on the main track. is that possible in X10 Ultimate?
I have tried using a vignette with a coloured background and using Chroma Key, but always end up getting a defined outline of the selected area and not a gradule Blend.
Thanks

Using X10, I achieved what I think you want by first using the Mask Creator to define an area of a photograph on an overlay track.
Then, right click on the photo clip and choose Customize Motion, set the opacity to zero on first key frame, then move the CTI to another position (further right) then add another keyframe, change the opacity to 100%.

I suggest you use the fade in and fade out options on the overlay track. Highlight the overlay track and click on Options, under the squares with arrows you will see two "triangles". Apply the Fade In to the beginning of the overlay and Fade Out to the end.
OR At the top left hand edge of the Options panel you will see a circle covered by a square and a "0" . This will adjust the overall transparency of the overlay track. I use it to create ghost effects.

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Hi John,
thanks for reply. That is the way I thought I could get what I wanted but It leaves a defined edge around the Masked area, and I was looking for an edge that gradually blended into the picture on the main track.
Many thanks.

Thanks Terfyn for reply,
Followed what you said, and as an alternative I could use the X10 Track fade in/out option. But again I was looking at showing only a specific area IE (say someones head) of the photo on the under track and that gradually blended into the picture on the main track as it faded in/out.
Thanks again.

Re: How to add a gradual blend in to PinP?
Hi Allan
Suggest you isolate the "head shot" into a png or jpeg, put that in an overlay track (beneath the main video).
Select this clip by double clicking on it in the timeline, select Mask & Chroma key, tick the Apply Overlay options, for Type choose Mask Frame from the Drop Down Menu and select the shape required from the multiple options.
This should give you a feathered edge look. Adjust the "head shot" opacity as you wish. Fade in/ fade out etc or Custom Motion etc.

Re: How to add a gradual blend in to PinP?
Hi John.
thanks for your suggestion, I think I can work with that using the Cloud option style of mask, but still not quite the blending in around the outline of the head that I was looking for. I will try modifying a picture in Paint.net and use a gaussian blur to give me a gradual blendin with the use of chroma key. I was hoping I could have done it all in VS, but there's always more than one way to skin a cat as they say. (Can't imagine where that saying comes from!!
)
Again thanks for your help.

Have you tried using a suitably long transition in the overlay track?

Hi Alan
Use an image editor to remove the background, Erasure tool with feathered edge.
Then save as PNG should retain the background as transparent.
Add to overlay track and Customise Motion to Fade In.
Provide us with the image so we can try different methods.
Many ways to do this, just personal preference on what we use.

Hi aljimenez
"Have you tried using a suitably long transition in the overlay track?"
Yes thanks but not the effect I was after.
Thanks for your input

Re: How to add a gradual blend in to PinP?
Hi Trevor,
I do not use any cloud sites to post a picture, but basically I was trying to produce a video using a photo of my 3 daughters and wife, that was taken from a 35mm slide 41 yrs ago. I have a sound track of the same period taken from a tape recorder, which I have converted to digital. the Idea was to have a neutral background on the main track, with the photo in the next track, and then as the children spoke on the sound track I was trying to bring into view on the main frame the head of the child speaking. Gradually fading in, and enlarging in size, but I was also trying to get a slow blend of the area around the head into the Neutral background. (The last bit being the problem area).
But as you and John have said, I have come to the conclusion that the best option is to create a separate png of the head for each child and "Feather in" or use a "gaussian blur" as they call it in Paint.net, to blend into a green background and use Chroma Key and Cusrom Motion in VS.
Thanks Trevor and all others for your input.

Hi JaRo
Sorry for delay in replying, thanks for suggestion. It may have worked for me if the graduation was circular or Square even, but just a straight gradutuation is not what I wanted.
Thanks again.

Hi Alan
Have you managed to use Paint.net to crop and remove the background of your image?
Saving as PNG will save image with a transparent background.
I have sent a PM to you , look in your In Box.
