Hi
The DVD disc holds Vob type files, those are Mpeg2
Using Import Digital Media to rip the disc to Video Studio will produce mpeg2
That is the best format to retain the original quality.
To burn a disc converting to Mpeg4 is a waste of time and will not improve quality.
Clips added to the timeline are virtual clips, that is not the originals but a representation of them, thumbnails, so we can edit without affecting the original files, non destructive.
Once we have completed the project we then convert the project to a new video file via the Share options.
What you render to depends on what you wish to make, goes with saying I suppose.
To burn a DVD we need Mpeg2 files, so we render our project to mpeg2.
As they are the original files we can use same settings as original to create the new output file, that should retain original quality.
Using that file to burn a disc.
It is true that we could convert to another format for internet or PC use and mpeg4 is as good as another, but not for burning a disc.
1 / transfer disc Vobs to pc, either rename the vod to use MPG or Import using Insert Digital Media,
That will create Mpeg2 files
2 / Edit project
3 / from Share choose Mpeg2 - or render to same as project or first clip, creates Mpeg2
4 / Use that file to burn the disc
5 / if you need other formats convert video (Mpeg2) made in 3 above.
