Have VS8, have worked with it pretty extensively. Just getting back to video editing after a few months break.
Had the OOS problem with VS8, read that downloading/installing the VS9 trial would fix the problem in VS8.
Sure enough, it fixed the problem. Very happy! I always render my projects to mpegs before creating the DVD so I can double check them.
Now, when I render a mpeg in VS8 and go to view it in Windows Media player, I get an ! next to the mpeg name and at the very end of playing the mpeg I get a loud "chirp". Mpegs rendered before installing the VS9 trial are fine, and a Mpeg rendered from the same project in VS9 trial is fine.
When I click on the exclamation, it (Windows media player) tells me I'm missing a CODEC YUY2.
I don't want to buy and switch to VS9 until I have a chance to see if it's what I really want, but I'm not super happy with the missing codec in WMP that is now happening.
I haven't burned anything to DVD yet to see how it does there.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

I think the problem that you are encountering is that VS9 uses Dolby AC3 as the default audio in new projects. The projects that you are bringing over from VS8 have the audio set to something else, and that is still available in VS9, so it will render something that you are used to. The first thing I noticed with VS9 was that I could play my MPGs in Medial Player, but they had no sound. They came out fine on DVD and also played fine in other players, but I still have not been able to get them to work with Media Player. There are a couple of threads that deal with how to solve the problem so that you can use the AC3 sound and Media Player, but I have never got it to work. I can say that on the DVD the audio sounds better coming from VS9 and AC3 than it did with VS8, I just can't use Media Player to "verify" my MPGs. Now I just use ATI's video player to verify my MPG files. That is not an option for everyone, but it made my life easier.
Try searching the board for media player fixes and you should find something to help. I hope you have beeter luck implementing than I did.
Hope this helps some, I love VS9, we worth the price to me.

Thanks for your input.
The same project rendered from VS8 and VS9 both plays in Media Player - only difference being the VS8 mpeg has that annoying "chirp" at the end and it shows the ! the entire time it plays.
Both mpegs play in Media Player with sound, so it sounds like we have slightly different issues.
I will check for Media player fixes and see what I come up with.
thanks

An update - loaded the "chirping" mpeg into VS8 to play it - it chirps there
and when I load it into VS9 to play it. So it's definately something "in" the file.
Also, checked audio properties for both files, they are both MPEG Audio layer 2 files, vs9 did not render with different settings.
Have sent Ulead an email, not holding my breath....
