Black screen after edit
Video Studio Pro X10 Ultimate--After I use the scissors to split a scene, the scene after the edit is black, although I can hear the audio. When I undo the edit, the video comes back. I am trying to place a transition in the middle of the scene, but it won't allow me. Suggestions?

Re: Black screen after edit
One further note: I was using Color Fast color correction, plus Sharpen (this is an old home movie originally shot on VHS) and when I removed Color Fast from the incoming clip, my video returned. I'm thinking this might be a case of not having sufficient memory. I have 16 gigs, but am thinking of upgrading to 32.

Hi
Certainly, it does seem to be associated with the Colour Fast filter.
What happens if you first cut the clip add transition then apply Colour Fast?
Give us some details of your video file, right click a clip and choose properties, what are they?
I tried with the library sample with no problems?

Re: Black screen after edit
Hi Trevor--Here are the details on the video:
Video Type: H264 Main Profile Video
Total Frames: 105, 929
Attributes: 24 bits, 720X480
Frame Rate: 29.290
Data Rate: 1903 Kbps
My solution was to remove all filters (Sharpen and Colorfast), make the edit and add the transition between the clips, then everything worked fine. I then added Sharpen back, then Colorfast, and the Colorfast filter removed the Sharpen filter. So I tried several other filters and got the same result--it was one or the other--so I opted for Sharpen. Realistically, the color filters didn't help a whole lot anyway. They mostly just added a different kind of ugly.
Like I said earlier, I'm trying to edit some old home movies that were originally shot on VHS and are thirty years old, so they've started to deteriorate--and the resolution and color weren't that great to begin with!

Re: Black screen after edit
In fact, you can apply more than one filter. If you look closely at the Options panel, directly above where the filter you applied is listed, there is a box which is ticked by default, and it is this which replaces the listed filter when you apply another. See where the red arrow is pointing in the attached image. So simply untick that box. But just be aware that applying several filters can slow down eventual rendering, sometimes quite significantly.fred456885 wrote:I then added Sharpen back, then Colorfast, and the Colorfast filter removed the Sharpen filter. Re: Black screen after edit
Hey thanks, Ken. I should have checked that. I'm sure that's why the last filter was being replaced each time. And you're right, when I've used multiple filters before it does slow down the rendering!
