I hate the ads and don't get them as mentioned above. But consider this. We pay for pay tv. And in doing so get the ads. So is Corel any different?

Now Corel please don't read this and get any more clever ideas. :(

It's a little different.

Most pay tv has advertisers. They get money for showing those ads to offset the cost of serving up copyrighted material they licensed from production companies. Corel...advertises Corel's own products. While I have no doubt it helps them get sales conversions, simply showing them doesn't guarantee them any money at all. So it's not offsetting the cost of our continued use of our purchased user license to the software.

Levifiction I think the relevant point is that some things have always had advertising and we accept them. But when something intrudes on our daily lives that was once never there then we start to wonder why.

I think Corel is going down a dead end dirt road. There is so much good competition out there that they need to be very very careful how the 'upset' users.

There are positives and negatives about the advertising. I do not find it intrusive - I see so much advertising on facebook and newslinks that I just ignore the adds and have developed a tunnel vision to what is really important. The adds can be obtrusive and annoying - If you let them do so.

Positives - It was because of those adds - quick glance before closing that I was able to buy a copy of PSP X9 for $25 for a friend. It is because of those adds and announcements that I was able to get an update which basically produced more adds but allowed me to get Particleshop with a number of free brushes. I did that on one of my less used laptops - (if the laptop gets too old I just put it aside for testing and don't throw it away til it dies). That way I don't get to see those adds as often and am able to transfer the bonuses to other versions on my main computer.
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867

csh2000 wrote:Funny that we think the same, but for different companies. I have read as many reviews / blogs that I could find before I purchased Affinity. The most recent reviews are very favorable to the company. But, no doubt others have had issues.

Don't get me wrong, I really do enjoy PSP, but after using VideoStudio, AfterShot and PSP I feel that Corel has lost touch with their customers and are no longer investing their time and money in these products. I'll continue to use VideoStudio as well AfterShot as they provide a very specific need for me.

But, I really get pissed off when Corel wants to continually cram their ADWARE on me. I should not have to jump through hoops disabling in my host file, nor my Firewall.. Nor modify their json scripts... I bought their product, not their advertisements. I'm sure that I'll still find that I need to jump back to PSPX9 from time to time as that's where I'm most comfortable with after many years of experience, but until Corel changes their policy and stops throwing ads on me, I will never upgrade any of my existing products.
Well, a difference of opinion is what makes the world go round. I can only speak to what I have seen (along with the multipersonality admin who has the username Patrick Conner. but is actually any of several Serif reps.

As for ads, did you go to Help>Message Preferences and change "Receive updates/offers as tray notification" to the selection "Do not show me any tray messages for this application"?

I personally don't have a problem with the ads ... I still run PSPx6 on my computer I use at work, and it let me purchase PSP X9 ULTIMATE for $14.99 ... not a bad deal!!!
