Multi Camera Edit crashes VSP x10 Ultimate

Post by ptbpilot »

I recently did a full install of my VSP X10 Ultimate purchase. I'm running Win 7 Pro 64 bit. I recently purchased two Go Pros and upgraded VSP to be able to use the MCE function.

I opened MCE and imported the clips. As I began the process to scrub in order to sync the two video clips I have, VSP hard errors with the messages attached
First error received on MCE edit
First error received on MCE edit
and the application closes.
Error then close app
Error then close app
VSP X10 Multi Cam error 2.jpg (29.45 KiB) Viewed 7740 times
This happens every time I attempt it. The videos are in the workspace, but as soon as I try to do something it crashes. I tried turning Smart Proxy on or off and it didn't make a difference. If anything, with it turned off I seem to be able to get further, to scrub and mark one video but then when beginning to scrub the second it crashes. I never get to the point to sync. Smart Proxy enabled seems to make the crash happen sooner.

Has anyone encountered this? I'm at a loss and the GoPro videos are piling up for editing.

Thanks in advance!

Hi
Can you give some details regarding your video files properties.
Right click a clip and choose properties -- what are they?
If they are MP4 or Mov then you should install the quicktime codec

You do not need QuickTime Player or Web Player which developed some security problems.

But you may need the QuickTime Codec to play edit some mov types

There are a few YT videos describing the QuickTime issue, this may help..

The files are MP4
MP4 properties
MP4 properties
I did as you suggested but it did not resolve the issue. Uninstalled QT7 and reinstalled just the codecs as per the video. With Smart Proxy on I get the error without even touching the video then it closes. W/O smart proxy I was able to scrub and play the video. There was no error VSP just shut down.

I have the same issue as you ptbpilot.

I also have another issue that might be related to this Multi-Camera Edit crash. When I try to render a 4K project with more than one video track, the rendering process crashes exactly when the second video track clip comes up for rendering. Do you have this problem too?

OK, I think I figured out what's going on at least. There are only two cameras, but the GoPro split the streams into 5 or 6 clips, and at first I felt that was a bit unmanageable. So I connected them and created two rendered MP4 clips. This is what I was trying to use. I then tried the original MP4s straight out of the GoPro and the multi edit works. It will take longer, but I'll just have to stitch them together on the regular workspace. Haven't tried smart proxy yet as I got it working.

Now the only thing I can't figure out is the audio. I want all the audio from both clips. One is the aircraft intercom only (no ambient noise) and the camera on the wing catches nothing but prop/engine/wind noise. I want both but I want to lower the volume of the latter. The cockpit coms need to be the louder with just a hint of prop noise. Is there a way to do this? It seems when I import to MCE the volumes suddenly match. Change one the other is matched.

Hi

I did not realise that we could adjust the volume levels in MCE and that had to be done on the timelines.

Some thoughts on adjusting sound

1 / Adding two clips, within MCE -- if you choose the audio option as All Cameras it should add the sound clips to the edit (regular) timelines music tracks, now you should be able to adjust the volume levels.

2 / When you rendered your clips to create a single file, can you first adjust the volume, can be done on all adjacent clips. Hopefully the levels being correct when going to MCE. May help with lip sync?

The MCE VSP is placed in the library, double click that clip to open MCE to continue editing in MCE.

I am having the same issues as the previous users have noted. Just yesterday I had the error msg for the first time' I too have taken multiple .MTS files and rendered them into a single MP file. My sources have been a mix of .MTS files and.MP4 files. I believe it is these "converted files" that are causing the crashes.
I have had very mixed success with MCE syncing of files. On larger projects (i.e. multiple clips per camera) I have found the best approach is to add just one clip from each camera (covering the same time frame) and have MCE sync this. Then I go back and add the remaining clips for each camera and proceed to do MCE.
The problem I have been facing is when I have made the mistake of turning one of the cameras off and back on. In this case the MCE sync is clueless.
My work around has been to sync the cameras in the editor using multiple overlay tracks and filling the gaps (from when a camera was off) with a photo. I then render the adjusted camera timeline as an MP4 and then bring it back into a new MCE.

Any suggestions of how to prevent the crashing or a better way to work with disjointed files would be appreciated.
In researching this issue I learned of the importance of forcing VS to create a proxy file and to be sure it is created before trying MCE. I have found that the process of creating smart proxies takes way longer than you can imagine. I have also had cases where VS could not create a smart proxy of one my re-rendered MP files

Hi Alfred

welcome to the forums

I do not know why MCE should crash, but the main program does have some problems with some video types, but MTS and most MP4 should work ok.

So either it’s the video formats that’s causing the problem or how we are using the MCE.

Using the clips taken by the same camera, did you add those to the same camera angle / timeline, two clips to the same timeline, or different timelines.

If different timelines then the time order could be a long way out causing the sync scan to struggle.
Just a thought.
