Hello!
I'm using PSPX2 (v12.50) for a very long time on a 4th gen i7 machine. Now the time was come to upgrade the hardware and OS to a 7th gen i7 with Win10. The install of PSPX2 hangs up without an error. After many unsuccessful tries i'm going to the Windows Safe Mode, enabling the Windows Installer Service (it is generally not available in Safe Mode) and try to install PSPX2. It installs successfully except cant start Protexis Service. No problem, i know how to enable it in Safe Mode. And then - tadaaa - PSPX2 runs on a Kaby Lake CPU with Windows 10. But only in Safe Mode.
In Normal Mode, PSPX2 hangs up while showing Splash Screen in the Step "Befehls-Manager wird initialisiert" (in german, i think its called "initializing Command Manager" in english). The Task Manager says no abnormal CPU or RAM usage. It still hangs up without resonse. I fear it could be a bug with the Intel HD Graphics 630 GPU (or its driver). Is there any solution for this problem for PSPX2?
I know, there is a X9 but i'm very very satisfied with X2 and would use it furthermore if possible. I have tried the X9 demo and seem that it breaks my workflow (esp. the color picker window).
EDIT: I think its possible that an error message is shown behind the splashcreen. Because it is a modal window without move-by-mouse capabilities, there is no chance to check it.
Thanks
Kas

Re: PSPX2 does not work on
I've have this same problem. I love PSPX2 and the features but when upgrading from a Motions Computing tablet to Vaio Canvas Z, the program simply wouldn't install properly. Contacting Corel support did nothing as they apparently couldn't offer support on archived programs.
I tried a fresh install, installing with full admin, installing with various compatibilities and the program would either hang on installing at "Registering modules" or at the splash screen. To circumvent the "Registering modules" issue, I shut down some of the windows32 installers in Task Manager. That allowed for installation, but not a perfect program start up.
One difference between the machines OS wise is that the Vaio came with a Win10 Anniversary edition, while the Motions was Win7 upgraded to Win10. PSPX9 installed without issue, but Jasc PSP9 wouldn't. Strangest of all, however, is that Jasc PSP8 not only installed but runs just fine on the new Vaio. Talk about confusing.
Thanks for the idea of running this in safe mode, however. Hopefully, with enough fiddling, this problem can be solved.

Re: PSPX2 does not work on
Hi,
If you are able to have PSP X2 working under Windows 10, consider yourself lucky.
As far as I know, Corel used to claim support for PSP from version X4 upwards for Windows 10, but I can't seem te find where Corel mentions this now.
Their website only mentions support for X8 and X9 under "Currently supported products"https://support.corel.com/hc/en-us/arti ... -Products-
Under Windows 7, PSP X2 still worked a treat, so maybe try to install in compatibility mode might help?
1. Right-click on the setup file of the program and select "Properties".
2. Select "Compatibility" Tab.
3. Place a check mark next to "Run this program in Compatibility mode" and select Windows 7 from the drop down list.
4. Install as per instruction
5. After installation, run the sofware as an Administrator> Right-click on desktop icon > Run as Administrator.
Good luck.

Re: PSPX2 does not work on
Okay, update time.
Trying Kasdan's method of starting PSPX2 in Safe Mode, the program did run. Which meant there's a driver conflict between safe mode and regular boot, right? Today, on a whim, I uninstalled my graphics driver on my TabletPC which is an Intel Iris Pro Graphics 5200, started up X2 and the danged thing ran just fine. The Tablet reinstalled the Intel graphics driver, I closed out X2, started it up again and received a memory error that died too fast to see it.
Giving it that old college try, X2 was started up again and...it ruddy worked.
TL:DR - Try uninstalling graphics driver to use Windows native drivers?

Re: PSPX2 does not work on
There are no native Windows Graphics drivers- you have to use Intel as it is on a chip in your motherboard.
You could try finding an older Intel driver that wouldn't conflict with PSP X2- but then you have to go into Windows 10 settings to prevent it from automatically updating the driver- not an easy task.
You could buy a copy of Windows 7 while they are still available- Amazon has them, or if you updated to Windows 10 on and existing machine roll back to Windows 7.

Re: PSPX2 does not work on
Dear all, may I join the club of people reinstalling the excellent PSP X2 on a Windows 10 machine? I have just accomplished this perfectly on a brand new Asus Zenbook. It's really straightforward.
1) As others have noted, just disable or uninstall any graphics drivers you may have. The graphics will revert to the Microsoft Basic Driver for a time. Incidentally, I found disabling was the better choice, as Win10 seemed to want to constantly autoinstall the graphics drivers I was trying to uninstall.
2) Once this is done, proceed to install PSP X2 from whatever medium you wish - external drive, CD, SD card or whatever - and it will run perfectly.
The first time I did this, a couple of days ago, I was pretty sure I was able to revert to the Intel Graphics Driver afterwards. Having re-reinstalled (don't ask, but not because of a PSP problem), I find I must now always disable the Intel driver for it to work at all. But work it does, and very fast on the new machine!

Re: PSPX2 does not work on
I had the same issue for my beloved X2. My first solution was to move all pixel works from my native machine to a VirtualBox VM running with Win 7. Works fine. But a little bit complicated and windows license issues when installing Win 10 on the host machine (upgraded from W7 during the priceless upgrade period) and Win 7 in the VM with the same key. After then i'm wrote an batch file to disable the native intel driver, switch back to microsoft default driver, starting X2 and re-enabling intel native driver. Works fine also but has tro issues: First, excessive screen flickering and re-arranging some icons on the desktop. Second, to build such batch you need deep knowledge about YOUR windows registry and some GUIDs. Such a batch is NOT portable to other machines.
Intel itself has confirmed this compatibility issue between their drivers and PSP X2 but declines a patch because its a lack of Corels software. Corel say its a lack of outdated software and refers to current PSP releases. But i think i feel the same with some others in this thread when i say: X2 behaves to PSP 2018 like Opera 12.x behaves to Opera 15+: Simply an other software. Improved at some points but removed many important features. My opinion is that UI simplification is a fundamentally wrong tendency in all windows software since microsoft had released windows 8. What i need is a highly customizable UI like PSP had until including X2. I've bought some newer releases of PSP (X3, X4, 2018) in the hope they was bring back customizing features, but nothing happens.
In result, PSP is today an very nice image manipulation software with an very inflexible and accordingly frustrating user interface. Users that introduced PSP after the X3 release cannot understand which nice features we have lost since then. Hope that Corel will hear us and brings back some UI customization capabilities to PSP 2019!
