I've been exploring motion tracking in VS - by using custom motion, track motion or path: whilst the 1st 2 items have several tutorials explaining use, path motion seems to be an odd one out. Very little info available on Path. The user guide indicates that it would work similar to a filter (eg, a background clip in the timeline, an object in overlay 1, and dragging a path item on to the object), and then playing the project composite will cause the object to move around on the background following the path pattern chosen. And it does do that.
But this function rates it's own control in the gallery tool bar (the squiggly one below Fx), so it seems like there must be more to it. But I can't find any tut's on the topic. Does anyone know if there's anything - a tutorial or more detailed explanation somewhere - about just what path motion is intended for and how to use it?

Re: Path motion
Hi David
Like any other library page the Path library contains samples, predefined paths, in a similar way that the Title library contains predefined text
Any clip on the timeline that moves has a path associated with it, we can use Copy and Paste attributes to transfer the motion to other clips.
Customise Motion is probably the best improvement to the program Corel made.
Right click any clip for Customise Motion, adjust the settings to create movement, then Save to, will save the path to the library, defaults to the Custom page.
Ok to close CM
We can now use our own path saved to the library on other clips.

Re: Path motion
but if you already have a motion path - either one from the supplied path library or the custom library - or you want to create a new one then put the video/object that you wish too move into the video track and open the path library and drag and drop the path on to the video clip OR if creating a new path choose any one which is near to what you want
now right click on the clip and choose 'customise motion' and the customise motion window till open
now you can click on any of the nodes - move them wherever you want - add new key points and physically change the shape of the path then save the path ready for future use

Re: Path motion
Hi Trevor, Brian
I'd done all of that before posting, and maybe I read more into it than is warranted. To clarify, that path icon position is in prime screen real estate, and it seemed that as a result (that sort of positioning is much sought after and developers are usually under pressure to justify why something is that 'screen central') it was more important than the facility seemed on the surface. Track motion and custom/advanced motion have better motion tracking features in different circumstances than path, but the initiating icons are less "in your face", quite layered in the case of custom/advanced motion.
Maybe it really is a simple as an evolving tracking feature set with progressively better facilities - path, then custom/advanced, then track motion
