PSP 8 BUG Unable to edit, HELP!
First to make clear, I have been using PSP for many years, so I AM familiar with ALL the editing functions. And have been using PSP since JASC, before Corel took it over.
Just after a major Win 10 update 15 June 17 I am having serious problems with PSP8. In edit mode, the mouse pointer, will not respond to the edit icons inside the image? Example, clone tool icon, the mouse pointer does not respond to editing the image and the pointer does NOT change shape? This is the same for ALL the edit icons. However the normal mouse pointer does work on the top menu bar, (open file, ect). I am having no other mouse pointer bugs with any other app. I have reset PSP8, but this has made no difference. I can ONLY use PSP8 for basic editing, that does not require inside image editing. I may have to remove PSP8 and re-install it? If this fails, then I will have to purchase another Photo Editor other than Corel. This is the FIRST time I have had this problem?

Re: PSP 8 BUG Unable to edit, HELP!
Are you speaking of PSP 8 or PSP X8? PSP 8 is very old but some users continue to work with it.
If PSP X8 (= 18 and not 8 ), try to empty the cache file on exit.
Do you have a warning about some DLL file missing ?
If yes, go here :

Re: PSP 8 BUG Unable to edit, HELP!
While I can't help with your problem I would just note that this forum has had a number of different posts detailing a number of different issues occurring with various versions of PSP after WIN 10 pushed updates.
That said, and as Jean-Luc asked, is this Jasc's PSP 8 or Corel's X8? Given that your profile shows only X6 as your Corel products it's confusing as to actually what product you are using and talking about.

Re: PSP 8 BUG Unable to edit, HELP!
With that clarified you should change your profile info to reflect that. Again, however, my previous post says all I know about all sorts of different issues people seem to report after various WIN 10 updates. At best I can only suggest doing a complete uninstall (use the uninstall tool at the link in the sticky near the top of this forum) and then reinstall. When doing the reinstall (and if you haven't done this already) I suggest you also make sure to install both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions when prompted. Sometimes one version may show bugs that the other version doesn't, so it's always good to have the other version installed as a backup.Eurostar27 wrote:Sorry. It is Corel PSPX8 using 64bit

As well you should mention the version number of PSP X8. There were two service packs so that means 3 versions and each version had its own particular bugs that neede to be ironed out thus the need for the Service packs.

Re: PSP 8 BUG Unable to edit, HELP!
I have updated my profile and PC spec. I have added a signature of my latest PSP X8 and version. I will be removing PSP X8 and re-installing PSP X8 following instructions from Corels Tech Support. I will be removing PSP X6 and X2, but these will not be re-installed. Just to add, the 'inside image mouse editing bug' was on ALL my PSP versions, X8, X6 and X2, very strange?

Re: PSP 8 BUG Unable to edit, HELP!
Probably too late now, but don't remove PSP X6 or X2 if they were working.
You last statement that the same bug has hit all three gives us a clue that it may be a Windows 10 new feature that Microsoft has added which affects the way that the cursor is displayed.
As well say you had a bug with PSP X8, by keeping the earlier versions you can always fall back to those to get some work done and not get left in the lurch. The X6 and X2 act as your backup.
I just tested with the clone tool in PSP X8 and have no problems , all is normal with PSP X8 32 bit version 18.2.0.61 and Windows 10 Creators Update 1703 Build 15063.413. My only problem is the pspimage thumbs in explorer do not show an image only an icon.
Your description was a bit vague " In edit mode, the mouse pointer, will not respond to the edit icons inside the image" Do you mean the icon of the clone stamp appears on the image and is fixed - will not move with the cursor? or that it moves with the cursor but does not change size or does not accept a source and then clone that section to a target area.

Re: PSP 8 BUG Unable to edit, HELP!
I will try and explain. The mouse pointer works fine on the menu bar. When I open an image in edit mode, then try to click one of the edit icons on the left the mouse pointer does not respond INSIDE the image so as to edit, it just remains a normal mouse pointer with no actions. The pointer does not freeze inside the image, so it does move, but it does not perform any actions INSIDE the image. It does not accept the edit source inside the image target area. I had the same bug with X6 and X2. All versions of PSP have now been removed. If I kept X6 and X2 the same bug may have transferred itself on a fresh X8 install! I am hoping that this bug does not present itself again after a fresh X8 install? Nothing surprises me with Win10! Windows XP was the most stable and trouble free OS I ever had. In my view all the others are far less stable. If the problem presents itself again, I will have to forget ALL Corel products, and get another brand of photo editor! I will let you know in a few hours.

Re: PSP 8 BUG Unable to edit, HELP!
Just to say I have installed PSPX8 and the same problem persists? This is a copy to Corel Tech Support:-
Hi Cho
I have installed PSPX8 and the same problem persists. I removed all my other versions X2 and X6 as they had the same bug. This bug presented itself after the last major Windows 10 update 15 June 17, so this MAY be the cause. I NOW, have no photo editor to use. I will have to resort to finding another reliable brand of photo editor very soon. I am DEEPLY disappointed as I have been using PSP since before Corel took over JASC. I AM DEEPLY UPSET, so where do I go from here? I suggest that you contact your most top programming technicians. I am willing for your technicians to do a remote check on my PC and PSPX8 if you so desire. However, I need to be able to use a reliable photo editor very soon. THIS IS VERY URGENT.

Re: PSP 8 BUG Unable to edit, HELP!
While, as @hartpaul said, this would certainly appear to be an issue caused by the OP's WIN 10 update, I would hazard a guess that others also have that update because I believe all updates are pushed on WIN 10 users. So, unless others with the update are having the same problem then it's not solely the WIN 10 update causing the problem but also system specific with the OP.

If it was me I would be looking at the mouse. Buy a cheap mouse for just a few dollars and install is to see if the mouse software may be the issue.

Or buy a better mouse if you prefer, explain to the salesperson that you think - but are not sure - that you have a mouse problem and might have to return it if it turns out not to be a mouse problem. If they have no problem with you doing that, then you can do that in good conscience and, if the new mouse works, you'll have a mouse that suits your desires.brucet wrote:If it was me I would be looking at the mouse. Re: PSP 8 BUG Unable to edit, HELP!
OK he says the mouse pointer works fine on the menu and tool bars, he can move the mouse over the image. He can apparently click a tool (although he has not confirmed that that tool remains highlighted - I suspected that his mouse button may be not functioning properly but he would also be having the same trouble on other programs and not just PSP X s)
So again he has reinstalled and no change. I suspect that something is wrong with his windows 10 installation and he may need to repair it.
He could confirm that there is nothing wrong with PSP if he could install it on another computer .
Also as he has not stated which version of windows 10 he is using I cannot check my systems too try and see if I have the same. I have windows 10 on three laptops each a different upgrade so I could test there.
So once again which version and build of windows 10 do you have.

Thanks for all the comments. I have tried another high quality Microsoft mouse and a cheaper wired mouse. The one I normally use is a HP wireless mouse.JoeB wrote:Or buy a better mouse if you prefer, explain to the salesperson that you think - but are not sure - that you have a mouse problem and might have to return it if it turns out not to be a mouse problem.
