Saving auto music by VS version?

Post by Davidk »

The contents of the library space do change over time - the clips, frames, objects etc can morph in ways not obvious until playing an old vsp in a new version suddenly makes the changes very clear. Tricky, if that olde VS version has been uninstalled to make space for newer one(s), and thus an effort to re-link fails. To workaround this, I've taken to saving the samples folder (where all those library items are stored) elsewhere on the hard drive for all the versions since x5. I haven't been caught like that again as a result of this practice.

However, an attempt to apply the same approach for auto music fails at the first step - finding out where those auto music categories, songs and versions are stored. Even adding one to the music track and trying to find its properties is a bust - there isn't such an option presented. It has to be somewhere, but does anyone know where?

Hi David

Are you referring to Score Fitter
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio X10\ScoreFitter\Scorefitter Content\Songs

Triple Scoop are internet based so need an internet connection for those to show in library.
When we add to timeline a m4a clip is downloaded/saved to here…
C:\Users\Public\Music\Corel VideoStudio Pro
C:\Users\Public\Music\Triple Scoop Music

Same for Muserk
C:\Users\Public\Music\Corel VideoStudio Pro\Muserk

There may be other locations????

I do not use them and have no problems in hiding the folders

Using X10 we have Sonic Fire, we can create our own wav sound files

I didn't think David was referring to Triple Scoop OR Scoreftter specifically Trevor but to the auto music function accessed by clicking the Auto Music icon located just above the timeline in the Videostudio

Is that correct David

when you do that a .wav file is created and saved on your computer - so you can always find it again - in fact if you do need to change the length of the auto clip then yet another .wav is created

according to which version you are using the files are stored at

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64)\20.0\en-US\ScoreFitter for X10 files
and
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64)\19.0\en-US\ScoreFitter for X9 files

you can copy those wave files to any of your project/library folders -- you then need to do re-link when you open the project but after that all seems to work OK for me

seem to remember they went to something similar but to a "Auto music" folder in earlier versions - but unfortunately I only have to have thr last two versions installed at the moment -- from memory it used to be something like
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64)\15.0\en-US\Automusic - - for X5 files

Thanks Brian

Yes you may be correct there, seems odd the way it always creates a new file.
We did raise that during beta testing and why the files are saved there instead of the Audio Working Folder.

But then the program does save things all over the place for other functions, MCE, MyDVD, etc.

Not really user friendly as most will not know the location of that roaming folder, right click on the clip does not give the option for Locate on Computer.
I had thought that simply playing a sample also created a file in a different location, maybe they changed that?

I don’t recall earlier versions auto saving the music clip to a wav file. I normally rendered my own Wav to replace the SmartSound clip. Certainly I do not see anything in the 15.0 folder.

Then to archive the project create a Smart Package.

Yep there are workrounds we can do but for most new users not so easy.

The problem I have with the program is saving clips all over my drives, I don’t mind installing to the C:Drive as I will always do that, but auto saving clips from the timeline to unknown locations is poor management. These clips are associated with my project and should go to the working folder.

I rant on…….

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all of that. Yep, I was referring to the auto music you get from the timeline icon. I just did not expect that the music would be created "on demand" as Brian outlined from the listed options, so to speak. The coding effort to do that seems excessive compared to a simple stored folder of music files however sorted.

As to muserk and scorefitter - I did find those user folders, and they've been somewhat contentious (debated for several reason in the forum threads) over the last few versions. But since they were not what I was after, did not reference them. Probably my bad.

Perhaps i wasn't very clear - the auto music files are not recoded every time you open the project or need them - they are stored as wave files - ready to play - or move any where else when you want to use them

the only thing in the folders I listed are the project compiled wave files - there are no 'library' files in there

Hi

It’s a pity that the Wav files are not automatically inserted to the timelines instead of the SS file, or at least give the user the choice to do that via a right click.

I guess I didn't quite understand what Brian said either. But re-reading that post and doing some tests I conclude
1. the auto music composition is created "on demand" but stored nowhere initially. It will play, but is not stored.
2. adding the composition to the timeline also stores it in the scorefitter folder of the version path Brian outlined.
3. if one then selects that timeline music clip and drags the RH end to shorten the play time (as one does more often than not with any other music used in a project), a new shorter composition is created and is also stored in that scorefitter folder.

And from the path details, this method dates from the days when Ulead owned Video Studio.

So, if one wanted to keep the auto music from version to version (as outlined previously for the library samples), then for each VS version you would have to create every composition combination possible from the three main (category/song/version) choices, add it to the timeline, and repeat. Then save the scorefitter folder with all those wav files somewhere that's not in a video studio path and will survive a VS version uninstall process. . . messy :(

you can use those files in the app data sub folders that i listed in exactly the same way as any other music file on your computer

you can right click on the timeline and choose 'insert audio' and browse to the auto music compiled wave file and select it and it will appear in the timeline - OR - 'import' it to a library and then drag and drop it down into ANY project - or you could copy/move the auto music wave file to your video project folder -- then delete all the scorefitter files from your computer and still have a working sound file

Not true

the Smart Sound used in X7 and earlier versions did not auto create any Wav files, it relied on the Auto music files.
If we wanted wav clips of the Smart Sound we had to create them ourselves, Share Audio.
I would add the Smart Sound clip to the end of my project then select to render project range. finally replace the smart sound clip.

It was the introduction of the new Auto Music that first automatically creating those files.
They are untidy, if we edit the clip as you say we get another clip, and if I increased the size by nudging the digital clock, say a second at a time, each click will save another file, very untidy.
The save folder is not readily available at least for the new user, with ought being told of this location would never find them.

it would be best if the user did a right click for "convert to Wav" that way only the single wave would be saved, not a multitude of copies.
