Win 10 Creators Update and pspimage thumbs

Post by hartpaul »

I just installed the Creators update to Windows 10 about 8 hours ago and have now found that in windows explorer the pspimage thumbs are no longer visible only a camera icon.
Using PSP File > Open and browsing to the same folder (contains pspimage files from versions 8 X2-X9) only icons show not thumbs.
In manage mode and browsing to that folder under Computer in the navigation panel the thumbs show correctly.

Anybody else with Creators update having this problem and / or anybody not having this problem and what did you do to correct it?

I'm seeing the same issue that you are with the camera icon in place of a thumbnail photo. I haven't yet figured out a workaround (if there is one).

I rolled my 1703 back to 1607 and still had the problems, (which I did not have before) then after some playing around deleting iconcache and thumbnail cache, many restarts the thumbnails of pspsimage files suddenly reappeared.
https://www.howtogeek.com/232779/how-to ... indows-10/

and
http://www.winability.com/how-to-erase- ... windows-8/

I did not notice what operation restored my thumbnails however and am now working on two laptops with the identical version and build of 1607, one of which shows pspimage thumbnails and the other does not.
So must be some switches that a combination corrects the problem.

Strange... I went through the process of deleting the iconcache and thumbnail cache, and haven't yet seen any change.

Firstly I don't know how to fix this. Other than a full reinstall.

The thumbnails for .pspimage files are not handled by windows. They are handled by a part of psp. Basically corel needs to release a tool to remake the association because it happens all the damn time.

My thumbnails are working BTW.

Thanks for that flagpole. I'll contact support, and see what they have to say.

Well, the only workable solution from support has been to use the cleanup tool to uninstall PSP X9, then do a reinstall. It solved the problem. I wish there was an easier way.

Thanks theavy . Will try that.
That might explain why I have :
Toshiba S70 Laptop Win 10 1607 Build 14393.1198 where all pspsimage thumbs are visible
Toshiba L50 Laptop Win 10 1607 Build 14393.1198 where no pspimage thumbs are visible

EDIT:
Just an enquiry:
Do you use the Windows Uninstall/Chang program AND then use the cleanup tool OR just use the Cleanup tool by itself.
The instructions in the locked sticky thread :
"If you have problems with PSP and wish to uninstall, use one of the Cleanup Tools listed below."
are vague on this point .

Well I jumped in and used the Windows uninstall for X9 and then followed up with the Cleanup tool which also removed some Registry entries as well. Then restarted computer and reinstalled X9 and suddenly all the pspimage thumbnails were showing again.
So it seems that with some of the updates, change to Creators update, rollbacks etc that the ability to show pspimage thumbnails may be compromised.
This can then be cured by uninstalling and reinstalling PSP X9 again.

Only problem is that if I keep doing this after each upgrade of Windows will I use up all my installs of X9 and have to ask Corel to reset the count again.

EDIT:
Have now done same for all versions of Windows that were not showing pspimage thumbnails and am happy to say that they are now visible.
So reinstallation after an update that breaks the connection is the key.

I don't think it will be necessary. I think, well i wouldn't say coincidence, but i didn't lose my thumbnails when i upgraded to creators update.
