Problems with DVD Burn

Post by jeffpost »

I am new to VS 9 Ultimate. I created a video of my recent trip to South America. I set a chapter point in the video for each city I visited (total of 4) which I wanted to appear on the menu I created in the burn module. I created the menu page and when I previewed it, the menu screen appeared correctly and if I clicked on the first chapter button, the video would play properly from beginning to end. If I moved the mouse pointer over any of the other menu buttons, the music I set for the background would stop playing and the program would lock up. I tried burning it anyway just to see what would happen and followed the progress bars while it was trying to burn. When it tried to render the menu page I got a "convert step got some problems" message. I've tried this several times and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I would appreciate any help I can get on this.

Hi

Can you confirm how you are burning the disc.
1 / We can create / render a video of our project, for DVD that will me Mpeg2. (has to be less than 4.3 Gb)
Using this new video file to burn a disc will remove the need to convert the title.
When we hit burn the process starts with Create Menu.

2 / If we go to share disc DVD from the open project the burner process renders the video prior to burning the disc.

Option 1 is recommended.

Ok
Close the burner module…
From your project Edit Tab, have you added chapter points, showing at the top of the timeline as a green marker? Please remove those before rendering as in 1 above.

To burn a disc………….

Open a new project, empty timelines.
Share Disc DVD opens the burner module
Add Video (top left icon) adding the Mpeg2 video made in 1 above
Create your chapter points
If you are using your own audio clips, use Wav not MP3.
Preview – when you float the mouse over the chapter points the motion effect and audio will restart from beginning.

Final page—choose to burn a disc Image, deselect create to Disc.
This will save the files as a ISO, we can play this using VLC Media Player

Other options

Split your project into several sections, render each to make separate Mpeg2 files
Use these to burn your disc will create Titles not Chapters, may work better for you.
Depends on how you wish to play the disc, using Chapters will play the disc to the end after selecting any chapter.

To sum up

1 / open your project on the main timelines
2 / render to Mpeg2
3 / start a new project
4 / Share Disc DVD
5 / Add Video made in 2 above
6 / create menu – preview should work ok
7 / Burn a disc image / ISO

I can't thank you enough for your help! Your steps worked perfectly and my video came out great. The thing I find odd is that the steps you outlined are not
the ones shown in the Video Studio help system, either on the help topics screen or in the on-line user manual. Corel is currently offering a real good price
on the Version 10 Ultimate upgrade. Do you think it is worth it? Thanks again so much for your help

Hi Jeff

Just to add, once we have created the Iso file, play using VLC Media Player to check quality, we burn that iso to disc.
Video Studio has a Burn from Disc Image option from the tools menu.

As for the workflow, Most of us on the forums have always created that Mpeg2 file, that goes back many years, for me to the first uvsx5, that version did not allow us to burn the project but we had to render to a video file first, I guess things stick.

Ulead / Corel set the program to burn the disc from the project files and for most works well, for others caused problems, their knowledge base does advise that we convert the project should we have problems.

So once we have rendered to Mpeg2, if our TV/DVD Player has USB we can play that on the TV, again to check quality.
If that works you may not bother burning the disc?

Anyway glad you have managed to burn the disc, we will never know what actually caused the problem?
