Video Studio Ultimate 10 cutting DVD's
I continue to try all of the options for making a dvd + R of my projects and have not been capable of getting one that will work in DVD players as well as on laptops using Windows 10. For some I get that the dvd is not the correct format in a dvd player, but it works on a computer and vice versa. Any ideas to make a dvd that will play on laptops, desktops and dvd players.
Thanks,
Paul

Paul

Welcome to the forum!
It would help if you gave us a brief step-by-step description of what you are doing in Video Studio to produce your DVD. Then we could make better suggestions as to what you might be doing wrong or could do better...

Re: Video Studio Ultimate 10 cutting DVD's
I imported the raw data from a Canon HRF700 video camera. Made a title under edit tab and then went to Share. I tried savings as a MPEG4 (didn't work), then as a MPEG2 (same result), then tried saving directly to a DVD+R with the project saved in both MPEG 2 and 4 with no success. It either works in a DVD but not on a laptop or vice versa.

you cannot just copy video files to a DVD and expect them to work in a DVD player - although the may well play on your computer
you MUST go through the full process under the "Share" tab which converts your videos to a specific format with the extension .VOB plus a few other file types and puts them in a special folder called 'Video_TS' unless you DVD player sees that folder with the correct files in it it will not play them

Re: Video Studio Ultimate 10 cutting DVD's
Trevor ("lata") has just posted a step by step guide to burning a DVD here: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 70#p343870
Just to give a little more detail in his Step 1, depending on the length of your project, you may need to Customize the mpeg-2 settings. Generally, for a DVD, the video has to be converted to standard definition mpeg-2, and there are limitations. If your project is around an hour or less long, then you could accept the default settings, which would include a frame size of 720 x 576 (PAL) or 720 x 480 (NTSC), 25 fps (PAL)/29.97 fps (NTSC), a bitrate of 8000 kbps, Upper Field First (or Frame Based if your original video is fully progressive), and Dolby audio. This will give the best quality DVD, though since you are down-converting from high def mpeg-4, the quality will never be quite as sharp as it is in your original video.
If your project is longer than an hour, then you will need to customize the bitrate. Making it lower than the default 8000 kbps will enable more video to be burned to the DVD -- remember that for a single layer DVD, the video has to be less than 4.3 GB in size. But lowering the bitrate also lowers the end quality.
As a general guide, for a project of around 90 minutes, the bitrate needs to be 6000 kbps, and for a 2 hour project, it would need to be lowered to 4000 kbps. This latter would give a quality not really better than a VHS video tape.

Re: Video Studio Ultimate 10 cutting DVD's
Ok, thanks for the help. I will give it a try. Unless I am not seeing this clearly, are we saying it is impossible to burn a DVD that will work in DVD players, laptops, and computers using the VS Ultimate 10 software?

Re: Video Studio Ultimate 10 cutting DVD's
Neither Brian nor myself were saying that at all -- quite the opposite! Of course you can burn a video DVD with Video Studio which will play in stand-alone players and on computer players. But a video DVD is subject to international standards which require it to have properties which fall within certain limits. I outlined those settings above. And Trevor/lata has outlined the steps you take to burn the DVD in Video Studio in that link I gave.

Re: Video Studio Ultimate 10 cutting DVD's
Ken: I tried the steps outlined by Trevor/Lata and made a DvD that works on my desktop using windows DVD player and every DvD player I have in the house, but not on my HP laptop. Perhaps my issue is the laptop. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly and I appreciate your time and effort. I believe I will turn this function over to one of my children as I have taken a lot of comments on the actual video that I did shoot at a family wedding and graduation party.
Many thanks,
Respectfully,
Paul

Hi Paul
Does the laptop use Windows 10, then it should have windows DVD Player?
If laptop is windows 7 then try installing VLC Media Player, that plays most things we throw at it!

Re: Video Studio Ultimate 10 cutting DVD's
Trevor: The laptop uses windows 10, but I could not find windows DVD player and instead it took me to the MS store to purchase it for $14.99. I will continue to check for it, but this particular laptop has ben a real bear from the beginning of the time I purchased it.
