Just bought an analog capture device, but VS8 won't let me..

VS8 won't let me select 720x480 resolution. Maybe I am doing something wrong. On the capture screen, I clicked on "options" then selected the capture tab. For "frame size", I clicked on the dropdown menu and it only lists resolutions from 160x120 to a max of 352x288. The capture device I bought (CameraMate Real Time Video by Zio), does 720x480. Why won't ULead list 720x480 as an option?

The usual reason this happens is that one of your connectors is a USB1.0 connection, which can't handle video bandwidth. Your capture device has a USB2.0 connector - so - what about your computer?

But the included software with CameraMate allows me to do 720x480 and it was in the same USB port.

Perhaps, your project setting in Video Studio is set for VCD not DVD?

Nope, it's definitely set to DVD.

See if changing the Capture Plugin in the Tools menu makes a difference.

Won't work. This is strange. Anyone have any ideas?

Julia,
Capture to mpeg2 with the software that came with the device. Then edit with Video Studio. This is usually what I do because Uleads support of capture boxes is spotty.

To be precise, Ulead doesn't support proprietary capture devices, it uses the standard video capture interfaces that exist, i.e. VFW, DirectShow, MiniDV, MicroDV, and even DVD/DVD-VR. If a hardware manufacturer elects to provide their own interface instead of complying with one of these, you can't exactly blame Ulead.

And this isn't unique to Ulead either. I see lots of people having trouble with ATI capture cards on several other forums. Cross your fingers and hope that the software that comes with the card also uses standard MPEG2 files.

I also have Cameramate Real Time Video and it too also gives me only a max resolution of 352x288. I'm not quite sure if there is a solution to this problem. I am thinking that maybe there is a clash between the program and the capture device. Maybe Ulead doesn't offer full support for this video device. When I use the software that came with the program it enables me to record at 720x480. I have all the drivers installed and my system specs are:

AMD Athlon 64 3500+
1 Gig of DDR 400 Ram
160 Gig hard drive
Asus A8V motherboard
GeForce 6600 256 DDR ram

If anyone has found a solution to this problem please notify me I would really appreciate it. I am going to send an email to Ulead support or somthing.
