Mousewheel font scrolling issue

Post by deepndark »

Ok, I've always been scrolling my fonts with mousewheel. But now I can scroll only once in row. Second time it doesn't scroll the font list as it automatically switches to zooming sizing.
Whatta heck? My Paintshop version is: 19.2.0.7 x 64

I've just tested this but can't reproduce what you say happens to you. As long as the mouse cursor stays within the drop-down menu of fonts, the mouse wheel scrolls up and down the fonts every time I open the fonts. But the wheel only zooms once the font menu is closed.

Have you tried resetting your PSP to its default settings -- with PSP closed, press and hold the Shift key and click the mouse left button to open PSP. If you have customized your PSP workspace make sure you save it before resetting PSP.

Not sure you understood my problem right so I'll give another shot to describe my issue. So when my text is selected and I want to switch fonts with my mousewheel WITHOUT seeing the font menu, it doesn't work like this anymore. Only one font can be changed in row now. Anyway, I reseted my preferences via FILE/PREFRENCES/RESET PREFERENCES - but this behaviour still remains..

OK from your description I gather you are doing something like this:
new document.
Choose text tool
type in some text
control A to select the text
Click the Fonts box so the fonts is highlighted
Scroll the mouse wheel and the font type changes in situ showing you what your test will look like with different fonts.

As a test can you
new document
choose paint brush tool
click the brush size
roll the mouse wheel -- Does the brush size change or does the wheel revert to zooming the image.

Yes, the paintbrush size does scroll between sizes like it should.

Then that suggests that the scrolling problem is just with the text.Have you reset the text options click the arrow beside the presets text and second button down on right Reset to default.

BTW when you have highlighted your text and click in the Font type do both the font type and text remain highlighted?

I just re-installed my PSP and got font mousewheel scrolling working again: BUT AFTER INSTALLING THE LATEST UPDATE offred by my PSP: it went broken again. So my conclusion is that this is a bug of the latest release.

And hartpaul: The fonts don't remain highlighted, but the text remains highlighted.

Is there some place to turn off the update checker?

I am using X9 version 19.1.0.29 and have resisted updating any further unless there is a need for the update.
Looking at the notes for the Update 4 it suggests that it fixes:
***Text: Can now change the font style while typing and text remains selected when choosing a font
I do not have a problem with this and can change the font style midway through a word as well as change the whole font after selecting the text and also when both are selected can scroll change the font.

***Tabbed Documents:Images now display in tab order (left to right) as you close them
I do not use Tabbed documents

***Scripts: Fixed several script errors, including stability of saved QuickScripts, and script download is now working in the 32-bit version of the application
Rarely use scripts or Quick scripts - Only use saved scripts when need a repeat of a series of steps I do.

***Camera RAW Lab: Fixed Dropper tool error
Do not normally use this - process my Canon raw images in Canon's Digital Photo Professional.

***Curves: Improved response to adjustments made with controls and keyboard
I find the Curves adjustment in PSP very primitive compared to photoshop where you can select a point in the image and that spot is shown on the curves dialog so you kno exactly what point to manipulate.

***Paint Brush: Improved “Wet look paint” edge results and “Smart Edge” selection results
Do not normally use the wet look paint and smat edge.

***Workspace switching: Corrected issue related to switching out of the Adjust workspace
I mostly use the Edit workspace which contains all the actions controls used in the Adjust work space. They could drop the Adjust workspace and I would not miss it.

***Welcome workspace: Improved response time
Not sure what this is - opening time of PSP - just do a couple of other things while waiting for PSP to open.

***Vignette effect: Improved results for 16-bit per channel images
***Gradient Fill Tool: Color is updated when moving a node and Opacity stop can be added from Materials palette (Standard Palette swatches)
***Adjustment layer > Curves: Removed shadow artifact from results
***Lens Correction: Improved lens corrections--aligned with AfterShot lens correction results
***Wacom driver compatibility: Corrected random Full Screen activation
***Text presets: Improved response time
***Sony A7RII (ARW): Raw file preview fixed (purple fringe along edge removed)
***Screenshot: Removed extra edge area from Smart Capture results and corrected image order issue when capturing multiple screenshots
***Adjust workspace: Guided Tour window no longer impeded by color profile message
***2-color TIFF file: Colors no longer change after saving to TIFF
***Symmetric Shape and Pen Tool: Keyboard cut-and-paste functionality restored
Rarely use any of these

***Installation issues resolved for KPT, Creative Content, and Perfectly Clear
***Pan pop-up window no longer cut off in Adjust and Effect filter dialog boxes
Have not noticed any of these problems

So in all I do not need to apply update 4 (SP2)

As your problem occurred after the last update perhaps you may need to do an install and only do the early 3 updates and not the 4 th.

I am using X9 version 19.1.0.29 as well. That's the original download after I bought it. :)

I believe you do this by going to Help>Message Preferences and unchecking both of the boxes in the dialogue that pops up.
