NEF Raw file wont open.

PSPX9 Wont open NEF raw files. Message appears: UNABLE TO OPEN FILE. PLEASE VERIFY THAT YOUR SYSTEM HAS SUFFICIENT AVAILABLE MEMORY.
I have 3.49 GB usable ram. its a 32bit system. I have tried different setting and sometimes the odd photo will open, but never 2 in a row.
Nikon d7200 camera.

I haven't checked so this is a calculated guess. But my guess is that x9 was released before Nikon released the D7200. So it's likely that x9 simply doesn't support the D7200, yet!
I use Nikons own NX-D for nef conversion to 16bit tiffs. Then edit in another editor on those tiffs.

Thanks for your reply. Ive just downloaded NX-D and will check it out. The D7200 is in the compatability list. Was really hoping I could stick with RAW files and just use PSPX9. Regaeds Jeff

I haven't used x9 so I maybe a bit amiss here. But If you set up PSPx9 so that NX-D is an external program you could still convert your nefs as though you were doing it all in PSP.

Ooops. Sorry but I just tried to open NX-D from with in PSPx8 and got zero results. Maybe PSP can't open an external program. My bad. Sorry.

Corel will update camera RAW profiles with each new addition, seldom with updates. So you can't use newer camera RAW files on older version of PSP- probably X9 is frozen at it's release date for profiles.

If you are going to do a lot of RAW processing, Aftershot Pro and DXO Optics Pro do a lot of camera profile updating between releases, unlike PSP.

There is another approach.
Open Nikon's NX-D. Convert your file and then do an 'Open with' option. You have to set up PSP by 'registering' it. It's simple to do. Go up to the 'Open with' app, (top left). Click 'register' and find PSPx9. Click add. Then OK.
Now every time you convert an NEF you can Click on 'Open with' and continue on your merry way editing in PSPx9.

As a caution note - keep an eye on which folder your files get saved into. Somewhere between NX-D and PSP there is a change of folder locations.

@rondo Now and again it will open a pic from said camera.
@brucet Really would like to stick with PSP9 as it was promoted to be able to serve my requirements.

So place some of the files it will open in one folder and some of the files it won't open in another and then compare the files to see what is different. Or is it random, sometimes opening and sometimes not.

There was confusion in the wording of your first post . You start off by saying it will not open NEF files Then you say it will open the odd photo but never two in a row.
So your first statement was incorrect which made others thing that your camera was too modern and that PSP X9 did not have the information to open any NEF files.
The statement about two in a row I interpreted as meaning that some files would open and some would not and possibly you had a mixture of NEF files from much earlier cameras as well as the latest which is why I suggested to compare the files that would open and would not.
Now I suspect that you have a lot of NEF files from the same camera and that each time you start a session with PSP X9 it will open the first NEF, but not the second.
When you close PSP X9 and open it again does it always open the first NEF file?
Or again is it random ? Does PSP X9 fail on the same NEF file or sometimes it will open and sometimes will not depending on if it is the first or second opened.

So does the problem exist with PSP X9 opening one image and then having something corrupted so it cannot open a second image?
Do any other owners of D7200 have this problem?

Or is it really a problem with the amount of memory in your computer and the size of your image as seen by PSP X9?
Can you take a number of NEF images at NEF 12 bit and Compressed and see if the same problem occurs with them.

I've tried 12 bit and it makes no difference. I do believe the problem is related to my computer memory. I tried tonight and it wouldn't open any NEF files. I don't believe there is any corruption issue.
