Out of a photo, how can I obtain an object with a transparent background?
I already selected and separated the object and deleted everything else. So now I have the object I want, plus the white background.
How can I remove the white background, so that I will have an image with no background (in other words transparent background)?

Re: Obtaining image with transparent background
In the Layers palette, does the layer show as a Background layer or a Raster layer? If you delete parts of an image that is a Background layer then what you'll get underneath is whatever color is the background color in your Color palette. If you first promote the Background layer to a regular Raster layer then, when you delete objects from the image, it will show transparency under the deleted part of the image.
If you presently have a Background layer with the object you want and the rest of the image is white, first promote that layer. Then select the white (the Magic Wand with Contiguous checked should work for that as long as the object does not have white portions at the edges of the object) then hit the Delete key to delete the selected white portion. This will leave the object surrounded by transparency.
