Hi Guys
This problem affects CVSX 7, 8, 9 and 10
Set the Project Properties to use AVCHD having surround sound Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 3/2(L,C,R,SL,SR) and Voice Over fails with the warning:-
Device Error:Cannot open the wave-in device.
Change the project properties to stereo and Voice Over records ok.
Whether using a Surround Sound mic makes a difference I do not know.
Timeline clips are irrelevant, test with an empty timeline.
Can you replicate, thanks.
Now there have been many complaints regarding Voice Over for a long time, many years, one post mentioned the problem was related to surround sound, but clearly we missed the relevance.
The wording of the message does not help as it directs us to a device, so we try all sorts of things to fix, but just on a wild goose chase.
If we can replicate I will pass on to Corel Support.

Thanks for testing this, strange that you do not replicate, could be a different issue for you.
The attached VSP works for me, can you try Voice Over using the project, opens with X9 and 10.
If you still have problems then we should look at other audio settings???

Using X10, the project as downloaded allows voice over without error. But, if the project audio preference is changed to surround sound Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 3/2(L,C,R,SL,SR) the Device Error alert comes up, just as you reported initially.

Changing Settings - Preferences solved my problem. I had struggled with "Device error. Cannot open wave-in device." for over two weeks with help from Corel Technical Support. I made the change and my voice-over immediately worked. I am very disappointed with Corel Technical support that they didn't know this or they didn't want to tell me since they do not know why it doesn't work the way it should.
