MP4 file plays fine in preview, doesn't from timeline
I have an old video I create back around 2007. Don't have the original source. I downloaded it from Youtube, and am wanting to bring it into X9 and cut off the front intro text, end text, and change the music.
When I pull it into the folders, and play it as preview, it plays fine.
But when I drop the video on the video editing area (Not sure what its called. but the main video area) and play it, there is about a 15 second area that pixelates horribly. I don't even have to make any edits to it. I checked to see if maybe I exported it it may generate a 'clean' file. No such luck.
Any ideas why a file that plays fine in preview pixelates bad when in the edit area?
FYI...being old...it is a low resolution file. But, It pixelates so bad you can't make anything out for that period of time.

Re: MP4 file plays find in preview, doesn't from
Can you please right click on the clip in the video editing timeline ("timeline" for short) and select Properties. Then either copy all the details on that page here or else take a screen shot of the Properties box and upload it here as an Attachment. That way we will at least have an idea of what exactly we are dealing with.

Re: MP4 file plays find in preview, doesn't from

Hopefully that is what you are looking for. I did right-click on the file that has the problem.
It's interesting that the problem is only for 10-15 seconds out of the 2 min. video. Note that the properties I copied are from the file after editing/cutting some out. But I have the same problem if I do no editing at all to it.

Do you have access to a cloud file sharing site like Dropbox or Google Drive or even One Drive where you could upload that file? We could then download it and see if we can produce the same problem, and then perhaps suggest ways around it.

Hi
That video is very small using a frame size of 320 x 240.
Because of that playback will be poor showing pixelization What did you use to download that file, I would have expected at least 1280 x 720 for video downloaded from YT?
Can you provide the YouTube address for that video?

Re: MP4 file plays fine in preview, doesn't from timeline
Yes, it is small. Between it originally being an 8mm movie, 2006 when I did it, less technology, etc. As well, back then most folks that would be watching it had dial up...so the goal then to be able to play it over dial up. So it is what it is. I'm not sure I even have the movie to recapture. My goal is to improve the front and back text
So here is a link to the original movie on Youtube-> https://youtu.be/Aa4jl3xbGcs
And here is a link to an uploaded version of the edited video, and you will see the severe pixelation (I assume that is what it is) shortly into the video itself.-> https://youtu.be/rrZ1U2vFnBY
Since posting this topic, this morning I tried changing the settings for the video I was creating to be lower resolution...but it didn't change the outcome.

Re: MP4 file plays fine in preview, doesn't from timeline
Hi
I have rendered the ICM 1 using these settings
My project properties are also set to same settings
MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 1280 x 720, 30 fps
Frame-based
H.264 High Profile Video: 15000 Kbps, 16:9
48000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 192 Kbps
I did not have a problem as your video shows from 14:28 to 18: 28
Can you zip your project file (vsp) and attach to your post.
I should then be able to re-link to your project and see your settings.

Re: MP4 file plays fine in preview, doesn't from timeline
Hi
I see the problem with your ICM.mp4, strange that my download does not show that pixelization.
I have modified your project,
Set Project Properties to match the output settings as 1280 x 720.
Replacing the MP4 file with my downloaded file.
Rendered to a new video. Seems to play ok, I have also added the rendered video to the templates folder.

Re: MP4 file plays fine in preview, doesn't from timeline
A couple things...
You say your download doesn't show that pixelation. Do you mean that the modified file I linked, when you download it, it does not show the pixelation? I'm a bit confused.
The file you generated does play find for me too.*240
So I thought I'd try your project file and render on my laptop and see how it goes. But when I load the file it does not bring the project in. It does show the fast project bars like it't bringing stuff in, but nothing shows up. Upper right corner where the project name should be says Untitled 320*240.
So I thought I'd try something different. I closed VS Ustimate X9, and double clicked on your project. It goes through the splash screen then that clears, and the app is not loaded. I guess it crashes.
Are you on X10? Maybe file incompatibility?

Re: MP4 file plays fine in preview, doesn't from timeline
Hi
Sorry yes I did use X10, I now assume you are using X9
As for downloaded files I was referring to me downloading from YT, and comparing with your file.
I have no problems with the YT download but your Instant Project file shows the pixilisation
As though there was a problem with the download?
I will retest with X9 and provide a suitable folder.
Post updated
Download this VSP and paste to the Instant Project folder, then open using X9

Re: MP4 file plays fine in preview, doesn't from timeline
I will download from YT again and see what happens.
But an interesting thing...I can play the downloaded file I used fine...even in the preview window before dropping in the timeline. As soon as I drop it in the timeline it goes bad.
BTW...I had also tried 720 to no avail.
I may also try on a different PC. My laptop was dropped a couple weeks ago, so maybe it's the laptop.

Hi
Are you saying that you see the same problems using my project files?
The Instant Project folder contains my downloaded file called
Ice Cream Man t 1 - YouTube[via torchbrowser.com] (1).exe
Then the project was rendered to a new video file called
Ice Cream Man lata new copy.mp4
Both these files should play ok.
Just to confirm that we are seeing the same problem, this is what I see when playing in project playback mode, clip playback seems ok.
