I'm trying to create a video of a talk I gave recently, and would like to flip between video of myself and the PowerPoint presentation I used. I have two primary files (one for the video of myself, and the other of the PowerPoint -- both are saved as MP4 files. I need the MP4 of me (taken in four roughly 18-minute segments with a Canon Vixia HF R700) to run as one continuous hour and ten-minute segment to preserve the sound sync with my image. That part is easy.
I thought I would be able to then use snipped segments of the PowerPoint MP4 as overlays, but the overlay track doesn't include the Multi-Trim Video tab. I have all of the slides from the PowerPoint also saved as .png files, and could use them as overlays, but they would be static, and wouldn't show the movement the MP4 version of the PowerPoint does.
Would my best bet be to use the PowerPoint MP4 as the main video track, segmenting it as needed, positioning the segments wherever I want the audience to see the PowerPoint instead of my ugly mug? Or does someone have a better suggestion (like a good way to split up the Powerpoint MP4 instead)? I've attached a screenshot of the project. Thanks.

Re: Video Studio X9 Ultimate -- Using Main Video as an Overl
you seem a little confused - or is it me ??
the top track is the main track - tracks below that are the overlays
normal procedure would be to put the video of you in the top track and then just insert snippets of the presentation in the overlay when you wanted to show them instead of you
why do you need multi trim ??? - just snip the overlay track into 4 using the scissor tool and slide the segments along to the required spot - or if you already have the presentation in 4 segments just put them in the overlay track as required
I would expect your timeline to have a pattern like this

Re: Video Studio X9 Ultimate -- Using Main Video as an Overl
Hi, Brian ---
I guess I am confused. I was under the impression that, in order to create multiple snippets of a track, I needed to use the Multi-Trim tool (which isn't available on the Overlay Track). If I snip segments from the Overlay Track, what happens to the rest of the track? Does it just get pushed further down the timeline? I'll need to make as many as 90 snippets. Is that do-able?

no you can make as many cuts as you like using the scissors tool - then delete bits you don't want - clips in the overlay tracks just stay where you put them - space them to match your talk

And don't worry if you make a mistake in the cuts. As you may be aware, editing in an NLE program like VS is virtual. So your original mp4 of the PP presentation will still be on your computer if you need to revert to it. The cuts and deletions you make are all virtual.

Thanks, Ken. It's a bit of a learning curve, but I'll figure it out eventually.
