Yet another issue of lack of knowledge with Videostudio
I have a HDPVR and it works fine I used it to capture video on my computer all the time. I tried to set it up in VideoStudio X 10 but I can select HDPVR from the drop down but that is all. I can't figure out how to get VideoStudio 10 to connect to my HDPVR.
I would appreciate any and all help, I am learning see, I can even post in the correct forum now.............lol

Re: Yet another issue of lack of knowledge re HDPVR
What wires or connections does your HDPRV have - I would hope it has a 'firewire' or IEE1394 connection
if this is all it has then your computer must also have the same connection - do you have an IEEE1394 port on your computer - will look like one of these
now I wonder if we can get you to give a title to your post which relates to the problem you have

Re: Yet another issue of lack of knowledge re HDPVR
Brian,
I appreciate your input on my post about my HDPVR however it is already connected to my computer and has been for 4 to 5 years now. I can record anything off my TV onto my computer using every capture program that I have with the exception of videostudio 10. That tells me I don't have a hardware problem as my HDPVR works perfectly. The problem is that videostudio 10 has a problem recognizing it when other capture programs do not.
Once again thanks for replying but when it comes to computers hardware and software for the most part I can find my way around and do things as I have for many years. For some reason I'm running into all kinds of issues that are user issues with videostudio 10, the way I see it is if my HDPVR is working properly and I have other capture programs that are able to access it, then the problem is somewhere with videostudio 10 and I shouldn't need an additional hardware piece to make videostudio 10 recognize my HDPVR.
Thank you for your post I appreciate your attempt to help me.

How is your HDPVR connected to your computer? What is the make/model of that HDPVR?

would you mind telling me the premise of your question? As I said I'm not having an issue with my HDPVR nor with any other capture software that I have, and I have several. The only one I'm having problems with his videostudio 10.canuck wrote:How is your HDPVR connected to your computer? What is the make/model of that HDPVR?

Re: Yet another issue of lack of knowledge re HDPVR
In reality, your problem is the same that many other users have when they buy a device to capture old analogue video and convert it to digital for burning to DVDs or whatever. They connect their device to their computers and find that successive versions of Video Studio can't recognize the device, and of course they want to know why not.
And the basic problem is that the device -- and I include your HDPVR here -- is made to work with the software which came with it. There may be some other software out there which will work with it, but that is more a matter of luck than anything else. And while it is easy to blame a corporation like Corel for not getting their software to work with each and every device (and there are a heck of a lot of them), more often than not the makers of the devices don't want to share the proprietary secrets involved in matching their device to the software they provide with it.
Now obviously, since you have been using your HDPVR for several years with your computer, you have absolutely no difficulty capturing and playing back the video with your existing software. So in reality all you need to do is continue that practice, and then simply insert that captured video into VS for editing. You may think that this is one extra step which should not be necessary, it is at most a very small step. You may also think that Video Studio should be a one stop shop for all your video editing tasks. Well, to an extent it is, but as you go on you will find, like most of us here, that you might need to use a variety of other specialized software for specific editing tasks, while still using VS as your base editor.
In most cases, I personally don't use VS for capturing video from my variety of cameras, even when VS has no trouble connecting to them. But these other programs I use have very specific if minor differences which to me suggest I should use them for that purpose rather than VS. But once captured, I always then open and edit them in VS... And then I will use third party titling software, filtering software and audio software to achieve specific results, while still editing my projects in VS.

Ken.
Thank you for the explanation it makes total sense. I will capture the video as I can do and then just bring it into VideoStudio 10 to edit. Will MP4 format be ok?

Re: Yet another issue of lack of knowledge re HDPVR
I asked because since you have an HDPVR, it may not even be necessary to "capture" the video. If Windows sees the device and can recognize the video files then you perhaps simply copy the video from the device to your computer. In most cases, capture is only required when the video is stored on tape.e_a_g_l_e_p_i wrote:would you mind telling me the premise of your question? But if you want to keep it a secret, then that is fine by me.
Sorry I missed your post I wasn't getting email notifications at first but then they started to come. I click on the link and it brings me to the last reply. Sorry I missed your post. I still am waiting to hear if the format MP4 is a good format to edit in VideoStudio 10. I'm sure I will get a reply soon.
Sorry again I missed your post.

Re: Yet another issue of lack of knowledge re HDPVR
Yes mp4 will be fine.
In a sense, though, the capture format depends to an extent on what you intend to do with the edited video. If you just intend to play it back on your computer, mp4 is fine. But if, say, you wanted to make a DVD, then doing the original capture in standard definition mpeg-2 might be better since that is the format required for a DVD.
If you want to burn a Blu-Ray, then if your capture software allows it, capturing in AVCHD might be better. AVCHD is also mp4 but it uses the h.264 codec and is directly compatible with Blu-Ray requirements.
(Mind you, these days a lot of cameras -- or devices -- using mp4 in fact use the h.264 codec, though the video has the extension .mp4 instead of .mts or .m2ts...)

In that case mp4 will be absolutely fine.

Re: Yet another issue of lack of knowledge re HDPVR
In the Fx filter I see the boris FX however in the tutorial for videostudio 10 I see another boris FX filter which is gold in color. Is that an add on or is it somewhere else that I haven't found yet?

In the FX panel there is BCC Title Studio icon ( comes up as "Boris" in the drop down menu) and then there is Boris Grafitti 7.0 icon. The latter is buried in the "Special" drop down menu. Two different Boris applications.

Do you see two Boris thumbnails in 'FX' like my image below ??
the blue and white one does titles - while the one with the gold G does effects
How did we get to Boris in a topic about HDPVR ??? - can you start new topics for new questions please
