I actually write for a Blog and did a post about it there, but I will share the entire thing here, so noone has to go there to read it
(Now, this may seem like very novice information to you experienced users here, but I wanted to share it in case others have run into this issue - which has VS crashing just after the startup screen is shown)
For me, VideoStudio was crashing when it was starting up and I couldn't see why at first - I had changed nothing on my system and I was using it just the other day.
I tried different clips, I tried the clips in other video editing applications and the clips were fine, but VS wouldn't open, it would show the splash screen and then close, showing the error:
“Corel VideoStudio Has Stopped Working” I tried reopening it a few times and realized I was using the Windows right-click option "Open With..", which allows users to 'send' a file to a program, essentially making the program open and start using that file right away - however this "Open With" option was working with other programs I have installed...
I looked at VS then, and saw that it was opening fine 'on it's own' (not using "Open With..") so I closed it and reopened it a few times, trying to figure out what it was. It dawned on me that I was opening VideoStudio to the "Welcome" area.
As users of recent versions know, this ‘Startup Page’ offers a lot of helpful information upon opening VS. There are Tutorial videos on some of the Features and even Basic Tutorials and Help File links. But wait - no editing interface! No Timeline, no Media Library to add clips - that's it! That's the problem!
I went into the Settings to see if there was a Preferences option where I could set the Section to open VideoStudio to be - not the "Welcome" section but the "Edit" section - the tab/area where all of the editing/mixing and importing takes place.
There it was: Default Startup Page - and it was set to "Welcome Book"...
A simple pull-down menu change to "Edit" and that was it! Now, VideoStudio is opening to the "Edit" section/area every time. So, I tested it out: right-clicking on my video clip and mousing-over "Open With.." and then clicking on "Corel VideoStudio" - it worked! VS opened up and in a few seconds more, my little video clip was right there on the Timeline, waiting patiently to be edited
(Again, this might seem like a very 'newbie' issue for many of you, but when looking up 'videostudio crashing on startup' and similar terms, I found many, many people asking about the same sequence of events (splash screen shown, then the 'crash' and error message) both here and in other places - and I thought perhaps this might help those 'many' people experiencing this - just in case it is in fact this very same issue/problem and possibly the same solution...)
