Information about saving as Photoshop PDF

Post by StoryMaker »

I'm considering getting Paint Shop Pro X9. When I looked up what file formats it saves as, I found that it had "Photoshop PDF" listed. Apparently, this is just a slight variation of "regular" PDFs. Do they still have selectable text data? While less essential, I'm also curious: are vector layers in PSP (such as shapes) preserved as vectors (so that you can modify them in Illustrator, Inkscape, etc. as vectors if desired)? Thanks. Just trying to assess how helpful this program will be for my purposes.

No.

PDF support in PSP is purely raster image based. When PSP imports PDFs it converts the to a raster image. When PSP saves to PDF it merges everything into a flat image and saves the image to the PDF container.

Photoshop PSD also doesn't support vectors.

PSP can only export vectors to EMF or WMF file formats. And of course PspImage. I've been working on an SVG export script, but it will have some weaknesses where text and other things are concerned. And I'm no where near finished with that, so that's not helpful.

Hmmm, that's too bad, but I guess working with PDF is tough. Thanks for the info!

EDIT: There was an additional question here but I see you already answered it, sorry...!
