I have some 5.1 audio media (6-channel) and upon importing into VideoStudio x10, it is not being handled as six separate Tracks per se.
It is handled like Stereo would be, one audio Track holding all of the information - even after 'splitting' the audio and video apart.
Even after setting the Project to 3/2 audio first (AVCHD settings).
It is not even 'splitting' the channels into three Stereo tracks of audio (which I assumed the Project Properties would instigate it to do).
Is there a way to separate the six channels imported into six separate Audio Tracks from the initial video clip?
Import 5.1 Surround Sound into separate Tracks ?

Never found a way within Videostudio of splitting the two tracks of a stereo recording out - apart from using an external audio editor and then re-importing them into separate time lines in VS - so I would not think that surround sound would be possible
I suppose you could split it in an external editor and insert 5 different music tracks - would be a bit of a pain re-synchronising again and I'm not sure what you would gain given Videostudios limited audio capabilities

I'm sorry I did not phrase that properly, what I meant was, is the "Split Audio" function within VS, where it places the Audio from the top video clip on an Audio Track (apart from the imported video file).BrianCee wrote:Never found a way within Videostudio of splitting the two tracks of a stereo recording out - apart from using an external audio editor and then re-importing them into separate time lines in VS - so I would not think that surround sound would be possible

It is not placing the 6 channel audio onto separate "Music Tracks", it is 'split' by the function onto just one "Track" (the "Voice Track", oddly), as though it were a single 'Stereo-mixed audio track' within the file (when in reality it is 6-channel audio). Screenshot below: As a comparison, my previous version of Movie Studio (one version back from what is available now), imports the same clip, 'splitting' it into six discrete audio tracks/events. Screenshot below: Despite setting the VS Project to 'Surround', etc. I was wondering if there is something I am missing, to get it to treat the audio in that manner (I want to do everything in VS

The "split audio" function in Videostudio is in fact a bit of a misnomer - the audio is never actually split to a unique audio track it always remains an integral part of the video track - at the same time the audio in the video track is just muted - if you choose the properties of the split audio you will see it is in fact the properties of a video file not an audio file - the audio track is named as the video file and in fact you will not find an actual audio file on your computer
additionally if you right click on the video you can 'unmute' the sound and then appear to have two sound
just saying that split audio is not the same as imported audio - although Videostudio will not import surround sound as 5 channels anyrate

I see - thank you for the explanation.BrianCee wrote:The "split audio" function in Videostudio is in fact a bit of a misnomer - the audio is never actually split to a unique audio track it always remains an integral part of the video track - at the same time the audio in the video track is just muted - if you choose the properties of the split audio you will see it is in fact the properties of a video file not an audio file - the audio track is named as the video file and in fact you will not find an actual audio file on your computer

After playing with it some more, I see that the 'Surround' functions and other audio functions all work as intended. I suppose then, even though it will restrict handling the individual audio channels as separate sound tracks, it is overall more of a cosmetic issue than anything (as long as one does not need to correct any audio in the other channels or make changes to them I guess).
Perhaps another one for The Suggestion Box! (5.1 discrete audio handling and 7.1 audio support for the future)
Thanks again
