I select Multi-Trim in a window (only works in one window for me, that seems to be the timeline window); set my mark in and mark out points (still not clear which enables video and which disables it) - used split, but when ever I hit delete (only available at non-reproducible moments) - the entire clip disappears from the timeline; not my split or edited sections.
I think the problem is that you are complicating what is supposed to be a simple edit.
You select MTV from the Timeline clip using the drop down list made by right-clicking the timeline. The clip then appears in the MTV window. You move the frames through this window until you get to the frame/s you want to remove (say a bad splice) Put the [ before the frame and the ] just after. The frame you want to remove will stay lit and the frames outside the enclosed area will go dark. A thumbnail will appear in the "Trimmed Video" section at the bottom.
Now (and this is important) click on "Invert Selection" at the very top of the window. The frame you want to remove will go dark and the frames on either side will light up. A second thumbnail will appear in the trimmed video window. Now click on OK and the clip, minus the unwanted frame, will appear on the timeline as two connecting clips. You never touch "Delete", it is done for you.
Now if you want to remove a number of frames in various parts of the clip. Put the [ ] brackets around each frame you want to remove before you click on Invert Selection, then click on OK. Because you are removing frames from the original clip, you will create a number of new clips that will string themselves together on the timeline but the offending frames will be missing.

The other thing you need to remember is that any cuts or deletions you make are in fact only virtual, not real. Your original video remains as it always was, and you can go back to the bits you "deleted" any time and "revive" them.
But if you want to save the bits you deleted as real and separate small clips, that too is easy in Video Studio. You insert the cut where you want it, then highlight the cut bit you would be deleting but then go to the File menu. Down toward the bottom you will see "Save Trimmed Video". Click on that and a new file of just that bit will appear in your Library window with a name similar to the overall video clip's name, but with a number -- like "****-1" -- added. This will also appear on your hard disk, wherever you have your project working folder designated, as a separate and real file.

Thank you for sharing this great Tip!Ken Berry wrote:.......if you want to save the bits you deleted as real and separate small clips, that too is easy in Video Studio. For those wondering, if it is 'greyed out' (like I ran into with this just now): You cannot make any alterations to the split clip, or you cannot save it as a 'trimmed clip'.
Still, this is fantastic for cutting out portions to work with later - thanks again

You have to make sure the clip you want to save as a real file, has been selected i.e. left click it and the golden boundary box at both ends should light up. For me, the only time 'Save Trimmed Video" is greyed out is when nothing in the timeline is selected/highlighted.

Hi
Once you use the scissors to cut the clip into sections “ takes if you will” we can create a new file of that new clip.
When you select any clip notice the white bar below the preview screen indicating the segment within the main file.
With the clip selected go to File -- Save Trimmed Video
This will render the clip to a new file using the files properties, saved to the Working Folder, a thumbnail placed in the library.
Allocate a suitable Working Folder from Preferences F6 – General Tab to store the new files.
