Note Intermittent Black screen at beginning , picture comes back at times but then around 1 minute into the video no picture, Only the credits and Audio can be seen or heard, No Video.
Certainly not new to any of this but this problem is now becoming ridiculous.
Video Studio x9 19.6.0.1 64 Bit windows 7 Ultimate Full Licensed version
Problem Upon completing Render, playback of the beginning screen goes black around 4 seconds in, the next screen shows then that to goes black the the majority of the video is blank with exception of audio which is fine and so is the titles.
However a number of Jpeg pictures towards the end these also are not showing which is odd as these are Jpeg’s so which leads me to think it’s not a container causing the problem neither is it a codec.
This happens on render MPEG- 4 as well as WMV, AVI, In fact all containers. However when watching the video through on Timeline absolutely perfect and not a problem.
QuickTime installed - Deleted QuickTime reinstalled Codecs only not player which is no longer available on Windows. v 7.7.9 Downloaded.
Different things I have tried.
One of the files with the problem MPEG-4 File Video Type H.264 Main Profile Video
Frame Rate 25 FPS
Data rate at 10460 Kbps
Results..........? Clip plays fine no drop outs in picture.
Render properties.
MPEG-4 AVC (1920 x 1080, 30p, 15Mbps)
MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 30 fps
Frame-based
H.264 High Profile Video: 15000 Kbps
48000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 192 Kbps
Unusual activity while rendering Meaning Render time unusually quick which gives me the indication something is not running correctly.
New Install Quick time made no difference, Still the problem exists two screens are showing up that are in H.264 Not Convinced as there is either a missing codec or something is corrupted.
Many screens replaced by a blank screen, Including JPEG pictures.
Despite choosing different wrappers the problem still exists.
Remove K Lite Codec Pack.
Removing K-lite codec pack does not help at all Still have the same problem.
Downloaded the DivX Codec H.264..?
H.264 | H.264 Codec Download | H.264 Encoder | DivX.com
http://www.divx.com/en/software/technologies/h264
The video was run again but with most of the footage removed and only the beginning frames were left In, after reviewing this seems to have worked Render time was back to normal.
Now testing on full Video after render here we are back to square one. I then converted all of the M4v Files to MP4 and still the same Issue.
So now this is worrying me that just maybe the whole program might be corrupted. So before even contemplating removing Corel Video studio any ideas what could be causing this frustrating problem. I did have this weird problem before but corrected, however I did not have to uninstall the program and reinstall it, but I did accidentally delete my notes. Thanks In advance

Re: Intermittent Black Screen
Does the project play in the Preview window? Do all the clips play in the Preview window? I assume all the video clips play outside of VS in a player like Windows Media Player or VLC, right?

Re: Intermittent Black Screen
Hi there yes the project plays perfectly without any glitches In the Preview window, this problem only begins as soon as the project has rendered successfully and is played. As I stated I had this problem before but just have no clue how i fixed it because i no longer have my notes. Its crazy. Sorry misread your question. No outside VS the playback after render In any media player you get exactly the same problem, Video starts first screen shows, couple of seconds you get black screen, because this video has credits within it these show up and the audio plays, no visual? Then soon after the visual returns for a few seconds, back to black screen, then at some stage through the video you may see the odd visual, but the rest stays blank. Audio, Text is fine no problems there.
Now, if the video is rendered and played through playback on the VS screen within the program you get exactly as i have described, a black screen at intermittent points and these are exactly in the same places every time. The project as above than stays blank for the the duration.
Strangely not even the Jpegs show up? So if this were a container issue or a codec hmm? cannot see that affecting Jpeg's but maybe it does..
So In my interest to solve this problem and not having my notes which i stupidly deleted sometime ago I have nothing to refer to, I can only go by memory which is rather Vague.
It was just after downloading and Installing the DivX H.264 codec I decided then to delete much of the project, instead retry render with only what I thought were the problematic files.
Hey presto it worked. No drop out, No black screen.
So upon reloading the full project,Then rendering I could not believe my eyes! The same problem was still there, I had fixed nothing!
So with a fresh install of VSx9 I have tried the render again and still have the same problem.
I then took a fresh batch of frames the same ones used in my project put these together than rendered, No problems.
This is beyond crazy and must be something within the project that is causing the completed render to act in this way showing this Black Screen. I think I have exhausted everything now.

Re: Intermittent Black Screen
Hi Electroblast
Can you right click a clip, one of the original clips on the timeline and choose properties.
You can create an image of that window and attach to your post.
Alt+PrtSc will save the details to your Clipboard, paste to an image editor to create a Jpeg.
You are in the UK as far as I can tell so using Pal tv standards at 25 fps which you mention in your first post.
Then you render to 30 fps which begs the question why?
The details you show seem to indicate the program being installed using NTSC settings, although that would not cause the black frames. Just confusing.
Please go to (F6) Preferences – view the TV System option at the bottom of the page, you should see Pal selected.
Also from Preferences and tick Show Messages when inserting first video ……
Ok try this
1 / start a new project
2 / add one of your original video files to the top timeline, hopefully you see a message to match the properties, yes / ok to that.
3 / Go to Share—at the top is the option “Same as Project Settings”, a little hard to see so place a tick in the box, then down arrow to select Same as First Video Clip, is that option available?
4 / Render the video to those settings, do you still have problems.?

Re: Intermittent Black Screen
Thanks Trevor Hmm Ok will try what you suggest, I have no idea how I got the 30 fps? but do see what you mean after reading over my first post, I did try A new project using the original files and I found this worked it was only after thinking I had cracked this that I loaded up the full version and rendered then noticed I had achieved nothing. However I am going to look into all you have written here and will be back on my findings. Thank you for taking the time out in helping. Much appreciated. Fingers crossed now.

Re: Intermittent Black Screen
Thank you Trevor for your help.
Hi there Trevor,
Without your help here It probably would have taken me forever to have figured this problem out but finally I have been able to complete the project and I am happy with the results. Before I go any further I must firstly say that although the NTSC and Pal mistake would have made little difference you were never the less correct that indeed the program had not been correctly set up from beginning even though when I first installed VS x9 I did check the box that gave me the choice of either having NTSC or Pal. So a mystery there why this had not been set up correctly.
Now I had already took one of the files from the problem project as a new project and once the render had completed Playback was perfect and there were no drop outs, so I set about then in trying your advice I set up in this way.
On problem video/share/ SAME AS FIRST CLIP. Then Rendered the file. Once the Render had completed the problem of blacked out screens was exactly the same.
Here is the properties of that first attempt after reading your advice.
Displayed as Pal 25 fps
MPEG- 4 files
24 bits 1920x 1080, 25 fps
frame based
H.264 Main Profile Video 10460kbps
4800Hz 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio:160Kbs
THE SECOND ATTEMPT.
Render done again /Share / SAME AS PROJECT SETTINGS
Properties
PAL double (50 fps)
MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 1280 x 720, 50 fps
Frame-based
H.264 Main Profile Video: 14625 Kbps, 16:9
48000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 128 Kbps
smart render enabled
The whole project played perfectly after Render with absolutely no dreaded (Black Screen). This solved the problem but not really certain what the heck the problem was. Maybe it was choosing "SAME AS PROJECT SETTINGS"
because "Same As First Clip" did not work. But these initial videos were not shot In 50fps? and the original files were 25fps. I have completely messed up here somewhere. But none the less I now have a video project which is stable, with a perfect crisp video. I will post a link here once this project gets uploaded.
Crazy, Crazy,Crazy I have had VS since version 12 and the only version I can say I had dire problems with was V4, But the settings as Same as Project Settings, Same as First clip, I have never had to use these? Never? So Crazy Crazy Crazy.
But a thank you to you Sir for helping out here.
Best Wishes
Jake.

Re: Intermittent Black Screen
Hi Jake
Good that you managed to get the project rendered ok
But your findings of the project and clip properties do not make sense. I suspect Video Studio is not reading the files correctly as the properties for those should be the same.
There is a small program called Media Info, can you use that to check the properties of your original video files.
Or upload a sample to a sharing site, Google Drive , DropBox etc. providing a share link to your post and we can check.
Otherwise if you are happy to continue we can call it a draw.

Re: Intermittent Black Screen
Hi there Trevor Yes no worries I know what you mean and even i was confused as the properties were stating 25fps so not sure really what the 50fps were? All I wanted was this video gone to be honest finally i managed to get it fixed and released everything was perfect. Some of the files to be honest had got into a mess once i encountered this problem. The thing was i had this problem before and had made notes but accidentally deleted them, yes i probably could have retrieved them but this was turning into an Agatha Christie Story, It was also rather Boring but very frustrating. I am glad you came and pointed out a few things. I am not around the terminal for a while but, I am definitely going to look into the points you have raised here, and say no i want to find out what was going on within the project and the clip properties so give me a few days i will get this small program so that hopefully we can thrash out what is going on. I must admit, that the NTSC and Pal bit was very odd, because upon initial set up I chose Pal so not sure why it reverted to NTSC, Unless at some stage VS had become corrupted? I will soon upgrade to Ultimate X10 anyway but before doing so will try see what the problem was with the files and the properties. Be in touch In few days.. Thanks for your Input Trevor.. Best Wishes and Thanks for all your help Much appreciated.

Re: Intermittent Black Screen
Hello everyone, Well not been to these forums for a very long time now, Until Yet again OMG I had the intermittent black screen and some images not showing, Again I never made any notes how i had fixed this problem previous. So because i had little time In trying to work this one out and recalling how I got around it last time, OK so i did a search on line and came accorss these long posts of mine, I was reading through and thought damn this person sounds like me, I looked up at the username and thought Wow it is me haha so funny that I helped myself sort this problem out.. I do not ever think I mentioned the Fix, well OK its absolutely stupid I did not even give this a thought myself The Fix I mean so now I'm gonna tell you because it just might help someone else out there should they come accross this problem. Lets recap first.
OK Intermittent video, Yes you might get the odd image or video which will display but there also might be long durations of Black Screen some very long periods of black screen, You may also note that play the video in your time line everything is good, But render it the playback is terrible, You might also find that after render on playback the audio if any will be terrible.
The render iself is unusually quick especially the fact I was rendering a project that was 1920 x 1080 at around 50fps, I have noted also that I do not seem to have this problem on on lower Rate vids..
Anyway the fix is so stupid its simple so here it is..
On your screen where your wrappers are displayed and up top right in the left corner, or at least it was in this Version of Video Studio x9, Oh i have the other upgrades on other PC's because yeah i do a heck load of producing..
Anyway yes up top left corner "Check That Box' (Same As Project Settings) AND CHOOSE SMART RENDER Your vid is good to go and will now render at which you will now find the Render takes longer, but the end result will be Awesome!
So Its good to post this here because the next time i forget I can come back here anytime and think ahhh So its more for me than you, Sorry
