Just wondering if I am missing a function of 'panning over time'...
What I mean is, if an audio file is placed into the Timeline, can it be panned left/right at one point, then shifted/pan over to the other side (in a Stereo Project) all within the one clip/event?
I looked around the editor and in the Sound Mixer, but it does not seem to 'keep' or 'save' any adjustments made in the "Surround Sound Mixer" (the little dot/button you can move around) into the clip/event on the Timeline...
I found a Corel Tutorial ( http://learn.corel.com/tutorials/playing-with-audio/ ) but it did not cover panning or using a pan envelope.
I also searched the User Manual, but the only references to Panning refer to image panning (moving around the areas of the image(s)).
Perhaps I am missing something somewhere - just wondering if this is even possible (I have VSx10 Ult). Thanks!

I agree that the tutorial is very basic.
Here is an idea. You could try and treat the audio as a stop motion i.e. a short series of audio clips. Cut the file where you want the audio to start moving across and continue cutting the audio file into perhaps five sections. Then in each section move the dot across a bit to pan the sound from one side to the other. Hope this works.
I downloaded a piece of music into X10. For some reason it split the audio into four sections along the length of the music. I needed to shorten the whole clip to align with the video and found that I could take a bit of time out of each clip. The clips played as one continuous piece.

Audio panning is possible, and Corel's tutorial you linked to does show how it's done. It is not very intuitive. Here's a tutorial made using VSX8 by Gripps. It's a lot better.
VS Pro 8 Working in Surround Sound
Basically you need to be in Project mode when you move one of the sound icons. Then move the playhead to the spot in your project where you want the sound to move to the other side (if you're just working with Stereo). Again make sure you're in Project mode not Clip, now move the sound icon. Play back to test it, (in Project mode) and you should see the sound icon travel, and be able to hear the sound move from one speaker to the next. If you want the sound to stay in let's say the right speaker for the entire duration, just move the playhead to the end, and move the sound icon if it has moved back to the center.
If you're wanting Surround, then you're Project Properties need to reflect you're using Dolby Digital 3/2,L,C,SL,SR. That will allow you to place the sound to a specific speaker. The sound icon will be moveable all around the the place.

Thanks, you two - between the suggested Tutorial and fiddling around with it a bit more, I now see how Panning can be manipulated.
I wish there was an Envelope for it (line with Nodes), like the one that gets created with Keyframes but seems to only affect Volume. Still, things are being adjusted now, at least.
One of the 'bumps in the road' for me as well, was that the audio cannot be manipulated in Clip Mode (which is what I was trying to do, to adjust each clip separately) - it keeps wanting to be adjusted in Project Mode, but then you hear 'everything' and it is harder to isolate what you want the individual sounds to do somewhat...
I eventually figured it out, you have to add one sound element at a time, adjusting one audio clip how you want it, then add another and use the Mixing Room to adjust the new one, then add another audio clip and use the Mixing Room again, and so on...
It seems to only edit the last one added to the Project, each time (so you better have the first ones correct haha - I wonder if there is a way to go back to them?)

You can mute a clip by clicking on the speaker icon to the left of the track selector in the sound mixer. That way you can isolate the one you're adjusting.

I also see how to 'go back and adjust previously added audio clips' in the Sound Mixer... For those wondering this, as I was:
Clicking on the pull-down menu shows all the Tracks being utilized and one can 'go back' and change the settings by choosing which Track to manipulate (screenshot of this speaker-menu attached)
