The old Paintshop Pro 9

Post by Fritz28 »

My old Paintshop Pro 9 suddenly does not open anymore.
The Windows (7 Prof.) Task Manager shows instead that Paintshop Pro 9 is working.
I deinstalled and reinstalled an deinstalled... Run the program as Admin...
Unfortunately without any success.
What happend ?

I installed my very very very old Paintshop Pro 4... It works perfectly.
But I want my PSP Pro 9 back!

Are you referring to the old JASC Paint Shop Pro version 9.01?

If so, I have it and Animation Shop 3 installed and running just fine on Windows 10. I'm not running either version as admin.

CCleaner might help. If there's some corruption in the Registry, CCleaner could root it out.

Unless a person is fairly well versed in computers and the registry I would not recommend using any registry cleaner. JMHO, of course, but running a registry cleaner without knowing enough to recognize what is and is not important that might be removed or "tweaked" can have unexpected consequences.

theany, cosmic Dread, JoeB thanks for your reply !

Yes it is the JASC PSP Pro 9.
And, yes my first step was registry cleaning with CCleaner.
No effect.

And the mystery is: It happened on two different Computer within one month that PSP Pro 9 suddenly did not opened anymore

One suggestion (basing this on not knowing what error you're receiving), in case you haven't already tried it... sometimes I've had it happen that the desktop shortcut somehow seems to lose touch with what's really what's supposed to be going on.

Try going to the location of the actual .exe and double-clicking it to see if the program loads properly. In most cases, that has worked for me. If that's the case, you can create a new desktop shortcut from the .exe to straighten out the problem.

Security patches have been known to cause software issues such as this. A security patch roll-back might fix the problem. Do I need to cover the pros and cons of a security patch rollback?

Have your tried running the programme in compatibility mode. Go to where the software is installed, right click on .exe and choose Properties. Click the comaptibility tab - you could run the compatibility trouble shooter first. If that doesn't resolve the problem, select running the programme in a lesser operating system.

I had the same problem yesterday with Paint shop Pro 9. It would not open. I turned off the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) for the program. Now it works. To turn it off you need to get to system properties. Click the Advanced tab, then the Performance settings button. Then click the Data Execution Prevention tab. Make sure the Turn on DEP for all programs and services execpt those I select is chosen. Click add then find the program exe. (Paint Shop Pro 9.exe). Then click apply. It should work now.
