Sound blanks about 1 sec apart when creating video or audio

Post by PiPaPr »

I am using Videostudio 11 Plus. When I try to save as a video file or an audio file, the audio portion will have blank spaces in the audio, spaced at just under 1 second apart. Any idea what may be causing this? I am not a frequent user, but in the past I have been able to create video files without this occuring.

VS11 is now quite dated. What are your file properties? It may be that todays newer file types do not work well in your older programme.

Yes, I know the program is old, but I have used it before with good results. Even used the same camera before and no issues like this with the audio.

VIDEO PROPERTIES
Length: 00:01:17
Frame width:1920
Frame height: 1080
Data rate: 18056kbps
Total bitrate: 19081kbps
Frame rate: 29 frames/second

AUDIO PROPERTIES
1025kbps
Channels 2 (stereo)
Audio sample rate: 32kHz

Camera used: Olympus Stylus SH-50
In Movie Mode,
Image size: 1080p
IS Movie Mode: On Hybrid (Movie Image Stablizer On Strong)
Microphone: On
Wind Noise Setting: On

I have tried various formats when saving as video or audio file; seems to make no diiference which one I choose, still get the blank spaces in audio about one second apart.

Your camera films video in the Motion JPEG (MJPEG) format, and I assume you installed any software which came with the camera.

Have you tried rendering using Share > Same As First Video and disabling SmartRender?

Actually, camera creates .MOV files. I did not download any software that came with camera.

I tried creating a video file with "Same as Project Settings" and with SmartRender OFF. Audio still has blank spaces about every second.

When creating just an Audio file, I don't see the option to use "Same as Project Settings", but I did try changing to 32kHz, 8 bits, stereo. Same blank spaces.

Hi
If you play the file using VLC Media Player does it play ok?

From Video Studio…Please right click your clip and choose properties what are they?

Go to Preferences and set Show Messages when inserting First Video………….

Start a New Project then add your video to the top timeline, you should get a message to match project properties., If yes select Details, copy and paste the details in the right hand panel to your post.
Click yes / OK

There was a security issue when using QuickTime Player, many people uninstalled QT…

Do you have the QuickTime codec installed on your pc.

This post has a link to a Youtube video that shows how to only install the Codec

As mentioned by Ken can you try rendering to Same As First Clip…

If you play the file using VLC Media Player does it play ok? The un-rendered file (.mov file straight from the camera) plays fine with VLC (and with Windows Media Player). The rendered file played with VLC still has the blank spaces in the audio, just like when played with VideoStudio or Windows Media Player.

From Video Studio…Please right click your clip and choose properties what are they?

When I right click on the clip in the time line, I get these properties: FILE File format: QuickTime Movie Files Movie size: 1920 x 1080 Duration: 77.077 seconds Track counts: 1 video track(s), 1 sound track(s) VIDEO TRACK 1 Compression: (blank) Attributes: 24 bits, 1920 x 1080 Total frames: 2,310 frame(s) Frame rate: 29.970 frames/sec Duration: 77.077 seconds Start at: 0.000 seconds SOUND TRACK 1 Compression: 16-bit Little Endian Attributes: 32.000 KHz, 16 bits, Stereo Total samples: 2,466,464 samples Duration: 77.077 seconds Start at: 0.000 seconds

When I right click on the thumbnail of the rendered file in the Library, I get these properties: FILE File format: NTSC DVD File size: 75,154 KB Duration: 77.077 seconds VIDEO Video type: MPEG-2 Video, Lower Field First Total frames: 2,310 frame(s) Attributes: 24 bits, 720 x 480, 4:3 Frame rate: 29.970 frames/sec Data rate: Variable bit rate (Max. 8000 kbps) AUDIO Audio type: LPCM Audio Total samples: 3,699,700 Samples Attribute: 48000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo Layer: (blank) Bit rate: (blank)

Go to Preferences and set Show Messages when inserting First Video…………. I already had this box checked, but I was not getting messages when inserting First Video. I do seem to recall I was getting messages a long time ago, and vaguely recall unchecking this box to stop getting the messages. Today I completely unnstalled and re-installed VideoStudio 11 Plus, and re-checked this box under preferences. Made no other changes to any of the defaut settings.

Start a New Project then add your video to the top timeline, you should get a message to match project properties., If yes select Details, copy and paste the details in the right hand panel to your post.
Click yes / OK I started a New Project, installed the clip to the top time line, but got no message to match project proerties. (BTW, I am relatively new to posting to this forum ... is there a way to include pictures? You made mention of copying and pasting the details in the right hand panel ... can you please elaborate or point me to where this is explained? If posting pictures is possible, that would have saved me a lot of typing for the Properties listed above. And to make it worse, I lost all of my typing when I clicked on the link below to read about codecs and then accidentally closed the window, instead of using the back button)

Do you have the QuickTime codec installed on your pc. I have QuickTime installed (version 7.1.3) I watched the YouTube video, and will consider removing QuickTime in the future, but for now, I'm not sure that having QT on my computer is the real problem.

Hi

With any Properties window showing Alt+ PrtSc ( keyboard keys) will copy the details to your clipboard, paste to any image editor and save as a jpeg.

Adding images to the forum can be done from the Upload Attachment at the bottom of your post.
This post refers
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=57659

The Jpeg image has to be less than I believe 500px. The properties panels are small enough without having to resize.

To copy text to your post is the same as Copying and Pasting using Word.
The messages panel was one source of text that could be copied to your post.

OK
Your original video is using Little Endian as the Audio codec, unfortunately the program cannot use that as part of the project properties, hence the lack of that Show messages panel.
It also uses H264, I think as you do not show that??? VS11 may not support h264, the program may be a little old for that.

You are converting / rendering the Mov to Mpeg2 DVD settings, this may be the problem, I think rendering Frame Based to Interlaced Lower Field could cause some issues…but unable to check not having UVS11 installed.

You should try rendering using Mpeg4 or Mov. I would try Mpeg4
The option for Custom may be the way to go to find those options.
Try using Make Movie Template Manager ( if that’s the correct name) to create a template as near to your original video properties.

24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 30 fps
Frame-based
H.264 Main Profile Video: 15000 Kbps
44100 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 128 Kbps

I am struggling to remember just what the old program actually covered in the way of editing HD 1920 x 1080. Certainly project properties would be limited to Standard Definition settings.

Anyway try rendering to Mpeg4 to see if that improves things.

Your best option is to upgrade to the later version.

Oh and no! -- Same as first clip will not be available either?

Still no joy in mudville. I tried saving as a MPEG-4 file, and as a MOV file. Tried both with the default options, and then with options editted to be as close to original file properties as possible.

I then went back and found a video I had made 2.5 years ago with same camera, same version of VideoStudio. It plays just fine in VideoStudio 11 Plus. When I inserted it into timeline from Library, I did a get dialogue box pop up and ask me if I wanted to change Project Properties to match Video Properties. I said yes. I will try to attach pictures showing details of how the two compared. (thanks for the tips)

I then inserted my 77 second video which I am having trouble rendering into 2nd time line.

Then I deleted video in the first time lime, and moved 77 second video from time line #2 to time line #1.

Tried rendering the 77 second video, choosing use settings same as Project Settings, and got same blank spaces in audio about every second.

Can you record a new video, very short and try that to see if you get the same blanks in the audio.
Are there any settings on the camera that can be changed, have you changed any, even inadvertently?
If there are, try changing anyway to see if another new recording works well.
