Favorite Version of PSP
Reading thread about older versions of PSP, and cleaning out my box of old software and many versions of PSP- I was wondering which version was/is your favorite?
Have to say I'm still fond of PSP X and then X2.

Re: Favorite Version of PSP
I use X2 because it was the last version to allow Enter key to accept default choice in dialog boxes- ie in Levels when you make some adjustments you don't have togo down and click the OK button. Press the Enter key and that is accepted. In X9 pressing the Enter key does nothing.
So with the processing of many images I have my left index finger hovering over the Enter key , use adjustment hit Enter key, next adjustment , hit Enter key much faster than having to drag the mouse cursor to the OK button each time.
It does work with some dialog boxes in X9 but there are some including my most used Levels adjustment where X9 does not work. It should be a simple matter to allow the Enter key to accept the highlighted / default choice as that is a windows standard, but Corel has mucked it up.
I also used X4 , then X7 and now X9 for text and other works that don't involve lots of images.

Re: Favorite Version of PSP
x8. Simply because I read way tooooooo many complaints about x9. Around the time x9 hit the market I started to get nervous and began to search for a PSP replacement. I ended up with Photoline. x8 has served me well. Has no 'real' issues for what I need it for. It works great as an external editor from Photoline.
The reality is that there are so many competitors now on the market. Corel has bloated PSP rather than improve it. But with the help of various plugins and freeware 'most' older versions of PSP should be more than enough for all but the very serious users.
Sorry Corel but x8 is the end of the line for me.
regards

Re: Favorite Version of PSP
I'm using X7, which is what I jumped to from Jasc's PSP v.9, which was a great program. But X7 does provide some very nice new tools and tool upgrades from Jasc's v.9, making it worth the jump up. If various bugs I've read about in the forums get fixed with X9 I can see possibly moving to that version for the gradient tool and text tool upgrades, but that's still an "if" and "possibly" situation, and who knows what the next version might offer.

Re: Favorite Version of PSP
I use PSPX9, have now uninstalled all the previous versions.
No program is perfect, but X9 does all I want it to do (I do a lot of editing).
A big 'however' though, it could/should be better.
No, it doesn't have to make the tea or sing to me, but it would be nice if the tools worked as they should.
Similar tools work better in other programs, but of course that would mean buying another program (which I have done)
I wonder how much longer Corel can get away with not really doing much to PSP and still call it a new version.
It would be a great shame if PSP disappeared, it's a good program, but as with everything, it's the user who gets the best out of something.

I'm going to have to go with JASC version 7. Of all the versions I've owned, it is the most reliable. In fact I still use it today.

Re: Favorite Version of PSP
It is interesting that so many people have past PSP programs as their favorites. It also suggests that a lot of people are still using those versions as long as they can and are wary about upgrading.
They are probably still using the past versions because:
1. It is set up or can be customized in a particular way that the latest versions cannot.
2. They can still do something that has been dropped from the later versions or is buggy in the later versions.
Perhaps Corel should look at the continuing past users and try and find out what they need to put into the later versions to convince older users (program that is) to upgrade to the latest.
