Noise reduction

Post by grinolot »

I need to edit some RAW images (primarily reduce noise from using a high ISO) this evening.

Any suggestions regarding the best way while preserving details in X8 or a plug in I could try?

One that have and is free, is Google's NIK Collection. Part of that collection is NIK Define, which is a great app for noise removal.

Keep in mind reducing noise in reality is also reducing detail. It's very difficult to do both. There will always be a compromise.

Most likely the best way is to do a selection on the noisy areas and reduce the noise while leaving the detailed less noisy areas untouched.

In PSP I would install the excellent DeNoise plugin from Topaz. Then do a selection of the noisy area in PSP and then open the DeNoise plugin. Work the noise and return it to PSP.
