VSX9 - Could Win 10 Education ED be the problem?

Post by Rockin_Ronnie »

I cannot launch any version of VS beyond the splash-screen (I also have X4 and X6). When I double click on the desktop icon the splash-screen runs for about a minute or so and then stops. No error message, just stops.

I cannot launch earlier versions and I even tried X10, same thing; cannot get beyond the splash-screen.

I have a new build i5 @3.2 with 16GB ram on a Gigabyte board with onboard graphics and 6.7TB of drive space.

I am beginning to think it is the version of Windows I am using. I am using a registered version of Windows 10 Education Edition and believe that it may be preventing me from launching programs. A rule, a permission perhaps? CVSX9 is not the only program I am having problems with. Have gone through all the forum topics and have not found anything that has helped.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Hi Rockin_Ronnie

and welcome to the forums

Have you ever been able to run these programs? if yes then you would have registered the program, internet connection required.

Disconnect the internet, then try running X10 and X9

Going back a while there was a windows update Feb 2016 that caused havoc with Video Studio, all versions to X9

Corel brought out hot fixes for X7, X8 and X9
Earlier versions were not fixed, however a workround, (replacing a file) thanks to Dawncold allowed earlier versions to run

These details should help for earlier versions.
For X9 I would download and install the service packs manually.
After installing SP1 see if the program will run.

As for X10, that should run ok

Hi

Having done a google search (many hits) I do think it is the Windows 10 environment that is causing programs not to run, and not directly a Video Studio problem.

I found an article referring to Lock down Windows 10 to specific apps

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/itp ... cific-apps

Hope this helps

Yes, tried that. Still does not work. Managed to successfully load and run a competitor's program.

Does VSX9 or X10 require Quicktime to run? If it does I don't have it installed and am reluctant to since Apple no longer supports it.

I'm not sure if VS9 requires Quicktime, but I have read that during the Quicktime install you may select an option to only install the codec and not the player... since it is the player that is at risk of hack attacks

I don't have any part of QT installed, and VS9.5 runs just fine on my Win10... which is the free update version from Win8.1

But if you regularly insert and want to edit video using the .mov extension, you will require the Quicktime codec...

Still not fixed. Again, Windows 10 Education, Version 1703, OS build 15063.296.

Works okay with other windows 10 desktop and with Dell laptop.

As far as I am aware, the Win 10 ED version is identical to the Enterprise edition, but sold through the Academic Volume Licensing system. And the Enterprise edition has all the features of Win 10 Pro with some additional features to assist IT based organizations. Since Win 10 Pro (which I have on one of my computers with various Corel programs including VS X10) has no trouble running these programs, I assume the Enterprise edition, and thus the Education version, should also have no difficulty with them. But I cannot think of any other reason why you are having these problems.

There is apparently another version of Win 10 which MS has either just released or is about to release. It is aimed at student computers, and apparently does have limitations on installing programs which do not have the MS seal of approval. There is already a fair bit of internet chatter to the effect that MS is shooting itself in the foot with this version. But I don't think you would have this version; nor do I know whether, in any case, Corel is on the MS list of approved software providers.

Thought I'd update this thread. The moment I installed a Geforce GTX 1050 TI, VS X9 sprang to life. Obviously an Intel onboard graphics driver issue.
