Issues with Windows 10 CU

Post by hexaae »

Windows 10 x64 CU (15063.138), Corel PaintShop Pro X9 (19.2.0.7 x64).
Gaming laptop ASUS G751JY [i7-4860HQ, 24GB DDR3L 2133MHz, GTX 980M (GM204M, 10DE-1617, rev. A1, vBIOS 84-04-48-00-39), 4GB GDDR5 (Micron), G-Sync], display: LG Philips LGD046C, desktop res: 1080p 75Hz, Audio: Realtek HD. Nvidia driver 378.92 WHQL.

I have random freezes of PSP when I leave it in background iconified.
Reliability Monitor reports multiple errors like this:

It also looks like PSP is not using GPU HW acceleration (Windows 10 CU x64 introduced WDDM 2.2) looking at how windows contents are refreshed (but maybe I'm wrong)...

Still problems with Windows 10 x64 CU 15063.296.
Sometimes randomly (usually after some hours) PSP becomes unresponsive and won't even un-iconify and open its window clicking in Windows 10 toolbar. Task Manager reports a 9-10% CPU activity but all you can do is killing the task and restart the program.

Please contact Corel support. We're just a bunch of users helping users. While it's not impossible you'll find someone knowledgeable here and we would greatly appreciate you posting any solutions you come up with, you have a better chance at resolution with Corel.

Ok.
...but really nobody else ever noticed these problems with Windows 10 (AU or CU) leaving the program open and iconified in background for a while (30+ min)? I doubt it's just me, since this system is fresh clean and stable (apart PSP) and I'm an experienced Windows users. :|

I have left it for days and no issues. Laptop is 5 years old, started with WIndows 7, upgraded to 8, then 8.1, then 10, and every version of 10 since the free upgrade. It has not been cleaned or wiped at all since initial Windows 10 update. No issues.

And even if someone here did see it, doesn't mean they have a solution. Again, this really should be brought to the attention of Corel's tech support. *shrug* Just one of those things where it's unlikely we'll be of much help here.

Yes, I'm also contacting official support.
It's useful to me your evidence. If you report it's ok for you on Windows 10 (I'm currently using CU 15063.296) but you have an old laptop then I'll try to disable some "new" nvidia features on mine (e.g. G-Sync etc.), let's see if this helps... It looks like a UI issue here.

For what it's worth, I too run PSP X9 Ultimate on Win 10 which is fully up to date. I often leave PSP running for hours at a time, and even overnight. But I have never had any problems either. My computer details are under my avatar.

... So I decided to uninstall PSP X9 Ultimate altogether and reinstalled it again. It passed an overnight test (first time!)
I'm not sure if first time I selected 64bit only, but now I reinstalled Recommended version (x32 + x64).

This was the annoying syndrome (with spinning circle busy pointer): https://pasteboard.co/7gNXsq5a6.jpg
Hope a fresh re-install with x32 components did the trick now!

Thank you for you patience, will report if similar issues happen again.
P.S.
Official support just suggested me to disable standby on my laptop... not of great help ;)
