New user -- Terrible editing performance
Hi all, I am a new user of X10. Done some light editing in the past but just picked up some new toys so getting back into it. All of my video comes from DJI Mavic Pro in 4K and GoPro Hero 5 in 4k.
Editing performance is complete crap. It is so slow and choppy and laggy. sometimes hanging on a single frame for 3-4 seconds.
My system:
Asus Z170 Deluxe
Intel i7-6700k
Strix GTX 1080i
32GB DDR3200
Samsung 1 TB 850 SSD
Acer XR34
Any tips for improving this? I can't believe its a system limitation.
New to the program so don' t know the tricks yet! thanks!

Re: New user -- Terrible editing performance
Can you tell us if your X10 is the full version or the trial version? If it is the trial version, then Corel have shot themselves in their collective foot since they have severely crippled it.
But it would also be useful if you could right click on the Mavic clips in the VS library or timeline and copy ALL its Properties here -- or else take a screen shot of the Properties box and upload it here as an Attachment.

Your system seems powerful enough. I wonder if you have other programs running in the background? As Ken asks, list your video properties and format, in particular bitrates. You may need to turn Proxy files on; I don't need to turn Proxy files on to get good editing performance and my system is about the same as yours though. I also do fairly high bitrate 4K videos.

So you expect PC to like them?

Re: New user -- Terrible editing performance
Where do I find this info exactly? Sorry, new to the program.aljimenez wrote:As Ken asks, list your video properties and format, in particular bitrates.
Also, checked CPU and Memory usage during editing.... hovers around 20% so its not taxing the system at all. no other programs running.
Any other suggestions here? Otherwise, this program is worthless to me..... impossible to properly edit transitions for precise timing, etc. I have to export the video to verify the actual timing!
I'll also try some video from my gopro to see if that has the same issue...

Re: New user -- Terrible editing performance
Can you also confirm that you have loaded any software which came with the Mavic and otherwise have the Quicktime .mov codec installed on your computer.
As Al has already suggested above, you should probably also try using SmartProxy in Video Studio. This creates a standard definition copy ("proxy") of the 4K original video. You edit using those proxies, and when satisfied, the edits are then applied to the 4K. You can set SmartProxy to work in Preferences. You need to be patient, though, as creation of the proxies can take some time.
Can you also please explain a little more exactly what you mean by "properly edit transitions for precise timing"...

Re: New user -- Terrible editing performance
will check when I get back to my PC tomorrow....
what I mean is that if I am editing to a song, etc, I want transition times to be precise to certain points in the song. currently, there is so much lag during edit, what I think is "dead on" ended up being up to a second off once the video was exported.

Re: New user -- Terrible editing performance
I know of one way to get bitrates: using the Mediainfo program (Google it). I seems that your best bet is Proxy files. Those are very large video files. Other ideas are to convert the videos to mp4, for example, using Format Factory.avi8tir wrote:Where do I find this info exactly?aljimenez wrote:As Ken asks, list your video properties and format, in particular bitrates.

Re: New user -- Terrible editing performance
Editing 4K is tough for consumer editors. That's why Proxy files are suggested to be used. Creating them for editing, and when it comes time to export, the original files are used. My computer is a little "long in tooth" and I have problems with smooth playback on the timeline when editing 4K from Panasonic. So, I have proxies rendered. It's an additional step that takes time, but nothing compared to being frustrated working with native 4K files.

Re: New user -- Terrible editing performance
I'm having the same issues with mpeg4 files from my mavic air. been a long time VS user. I've got a msi with i7 16gb ram and NVidia gtx1060 card. files playback no problem in WMV and clips play with some minor choppiness in VS. but when put in timeline it's unusable. enabled smart proxy...etc. any other thoughts?
