I hope someone can help me, I used VideoStudio about 10 years ago and found it great. The last few years I have been using an iMac. Recently I have decided to do some basic editing on some sports clips that I have. My iMac has Windows 7 installed on Parallels so I decided to give VideoStudio pro x 10 a try.
I installed the download version of pro x 10. On opening the program I tried to insert a video clip that was converted onto my iMac using a Canopus advc 55 device via firewire to iMovie the clip was a .dv file. VideoStudio wouldn’t import the clip giving a VideoStudio error File Format mismatch, I changed the file extension to .avi but it still wouldn’t import the clip.
Then I tried to import a dvd using Insert Digital Media (the dvd is a home recording so no copyright problems) it begins to read disc and opens up but the thumbnails remain blank but if you hover the mouse over title thumbnail it gives the disc information. Nothing happened so I ticked the box for title 1 and the next step tries to start but after a short while I get an error message ‘The file formats of some of the selected files are not supported’ and then the message ‘There is no valid clip’.
All the discs that I have tried have been finalised and play on different dvd players and computers so they shouldn’t be the problem.
Then I copied the disc to my desktop changed file extension to MPG. VS was able to import this I did small amount of editing and saved as MPG2. I closed program and reopened and tried to burn to disc but got Unspecified error 5.0.0 I then tried to create ISO image but got the same error message.
I have uninstalled VS and then re installed and gone through the process all over again but with no success.
Thanks in advance

I suspect something's wrong with the DVD driver in your virtual pc. Your best bet is to create a DVD compliant file and use an iMac program to burn your DVD. The other suggestion is to update the DVD driver in your virtual pc, test out other pc programs that read and write the DVD, etc.

Thanks very much aljimenez,
that makes some sense with what I'm experiencing I'll look into it.
although I'm not sure about asik1 I'm hoping his comment was tongue in cheek

With regards to the dv file, an apple dv file is different to a windows one. Your copy of vs on windows would be looking for a windows file, I would suggest using the canopus to capture a file with VS on your Mac, this should give you a windows dv.avi file and it should work in your copy of VS.

Re: Pro x10 import and burn problems
Thanks skier, as far as I am aware Parallels doesn't support the Firewire connection but that's not too much of a problem at the moment as the clips I need to edit are already on dvd. That's why I wanted to use the 'Insert Digital Media' function, I haven't got around to checking the dvd drivers yet but that sounds like a possible cause as to why I couldn't import the dvd.
