Screen Capture option grayed out
I am too used to the old Paint Shop Pro before it was bought over by Corel, that allows you to do screen captures without any problems. I did a search of the Help feature in my new Paint Shop Pro X9 and it led me to a topic about using "Screenshot" to do screen captures. A search of the File menu, however, does not provide that option. Nevertheless, in the File menu - Import - Screen Capture, a screen capture tool does exist. But it is grayed out. Can someone tell me how and when this is usable? Please help. Thanking you in advance!

I, personally, find it much easier to just simply use the <Snipping Tool> that Windows provides

Re: Screen Capture option grayed out
This is a case where the tool has suffered from bureaucratic red tape and become more complex to use.
Compare earlier versions up to X8. Although the method of setup was hidden under Import , the choices were well set out:

Now in X9 the screenshot is easier to find under File > Screenshot, but the rest to set it up as I have above is a dog's breakfast:

And now the fun starts:

Huh!! Where are all the setup options ? OH! I have to click the gear wheel at right (which does not have a mouse over display for its function). This almost useless dialog box only provides the information on the type of capture (Full Screen v Area etc). The other options are hidden and so I need to mouse click through the other screens to verify that I have it set up as I want it. Then the mess starts:
Method of Capture

Multiple Captures v Single Capture , Show or hide Cursor

Presets for Area captures??? Pretty useless for me. Do others use this?

Open image in this version of PSP, Save or Store on Clipboard

This change seems counter intuitive by Corel.
In the Save As dialog they changed that to make the compression visible (where before you had to click on Options to see what compression you were using).
Now they take a clear show all dialog box (all versions up to X8) and then hide the other options so you have to click a number of times to set it up or check your setup.

Re: Screen Capture option grayed out
Hi all! Thanks for your replies! Much appreciated. However, as you can see from the screenshot I took using Windows, my PSP X9 version does not have the Screenshot option under the File menu. I also looked for it under the Edit mode and did not see it. Am I using a different version from the rest of you folks?

Try looking in the Import sub-menu. I don't have X9, but should be the same place as X8.jontan88 wrote: Hi all! Thanks for your replies! Much appreciated. Re: Screen Capture option grayed out
Did you import an old X8 workspace? If so that's probably why you don't see the screenshot option. You can use the customize option under the View menu to drag the Screen Capture options back into the File menu.

Re: Screen Capture option grayed out
Just worked out. Your screenshot shows the Manage work space and it does not have the Screenshot as an option there. Change to the Edit work space and you should find it as shown in my previous post showing its location.jontan88 wrote:

TimW - your mention of the Windows snipping tool may be good for one of screen shots, but try and make a number of screen shots one after the other as I did to produce the images in my previous post and you will find the Windows Snipping tool lacking.
BTW I had difficulty in using the Screenshot to capture all those images and had to use the Control Alt Print Screen (my keyboard/computer) then right click and paste as new image, and do that 5 times to get all the images.

Re: Screen Capture option grayed out
Did you read the first reply to the original post? Stop looking under Import. As that reply says, in Edit mode it's the fourth option down when you click File and it's called Screenshot.Rascalron wrote:Guys, I have a new version of X9. File:Import there is NO Screen capture line. I am in Edit mode.
