Unable to open any FLV file or play AVI audio
My version of VS (X9) supports MPEG, MP4 and WMV files. But it does not open any of my FLV files or VOBs. It does play video in AVI containers but all without audio, no matter if encoded with MP3, PCM, AAC or AC3 streams. While I am able to recode just about any video file format with XMediaRecode, I would like to know if I need to install a codec pack for VS, or do I have hundreds of defective video clips. They all play OK with Media Player Classic, but then maybe VS requires perfectly encoded media. Can anyone throw some light on the matter?

Re: Unable to open any FLV file or play AVI audio
Hi
Vob files are used for standard dvd discs, usually within the Video TS folder, we can import those using Import Digital Media and navigating to the Video TS folder.
Some vob files will allow us to rename to use an extension mpg, then insert to VS in the normal way.
Does not work with all Vob files, but worth a try, Import Digital Media is the better option.
Additional Codec packs, I do not have any installed and as far as I know can open all video formats that Video Studio supports.
Corel did recommend via the Knowledge Base to install K-Lite a codec pack, that was to help playing some HD material.
I guess you could try that, take care installing as they tend to install additional stuff.
Most on the forum I am sure would not advise installing Codec Packs, although I have installed in the past with out problems

Re: Unable to open any FLV file or play AVI audio
Below are the steps I used to try and insert VOB files into the timeline.
1. Capture tab -> Options tab (mid far right) -> Import from Digital Media.
2. Browse to and double-click on "VIDEO_TS" folder that contains the VOB files.
Each time I navigated to VIDEO-TS folder, the "OK" button in the "Select Import Source Folders" window remained grayed. So I changed the file extensions of the VOB files to MPG and tried again. After trying to import 20 different videos, I had to conclude that VS X9 is unable to open VOBs--or renamed VOBs (as MPG)--as digital media.
So I followed lata's suggestion to import the renamed files (w/MPG extensions) in the usual way. It worked. Thank you sooooo much.

In the Import from Digital Media process, did you tick the tiny box in the top left of each of the thumbnail windows that appear. That indicates which parts of the whole video you want to import and should have made the import process active.

Hi
More info on Import Digital Media here
http://www.lata.me.uk/corel/import/import.htm
If there is a mix of Titles and Chapters, I think selecting the Titles only would suffice.

I am able to insert VOBs into the timeline via Capture on my laptop but not on my PC. So I will reinstall VS on my PC. Thank you for your valuable help.

Re: Unable to open any FLV file or play AVI audio
Hi
That’s good, at least you know the process works, hopefully a re-install will fix things.
If not as a workround, use Laptop and import files to USB stick, then easily transfer to desktop pc.
Do you have any other capture programs that is taking control of your CD / DVD drive,
Nero InCd was a problem.
I notice you have All-in-Wonder, don't suppose that is affecting the CD Drive?
