I assume you mean X10 and not Windows 10. But no, there is no such single thread. And to create one would IMHO create a real mess with people popping in with comments on problems which may be located way back in the same thread.wstagner wrote:Is there now (or if not start 1?) a single Windows 10 Issues thread

Re: videostudio x10 crashes
Got your file and it also crashes my X9 and X10, so this sample needs to go to Corel. The video is beautiful, great color, great detail. That camera is great (what camera is it?) and Corel needs to be able to handle these videos. BTW, only VLC plays this video in my Win7 pc, but in my laptop Win10, Windows Media Player handles it fine.

Re: videostudio x10 crashes
We probably didn't need a 3 minute clip. But in any case, I have downloaded it and get the same thing as you... or even less. I got the "Corel VideoStudio has stopped working" message when I attempted to insert your clip in the X10 library window. The progress bar showed and got to about 90% and froze, and the error message appeared.
After reopening X10 I then tried inserting the clip into the timeline. This time there was no progress bar, and after a couple of seconds I got the error message again.
I have been able to insert 4K video from other sources so there is obviously something 'special' about yours.
And for the record, I have the Quicktime codec installed.

Re: videostudio x10 crashes
I have a workaround for you. I used Format Factory to create a .mp4 file (basically re-write the file, but possibly with less quality) and the converted file works fine.

This video file is h265/XAVC. I'm wondering if Corel supports this input file (I don't recall).

Re: videostudio x10 crashes
For H.265 video you have to have the correct hardware, which is mostly high-end stuff including at least a Skylake Intel processor and high end GPU. However, curiously enough on-board Intel graphics of 4400 or above seem to be able to handle it as well.
EDIT: I noted your suggestion to convert with Format Factory. I have started the process but after 10 minutes it has done just 1% and I am not sure I will bother waiting for the rest.
I also tried playing the clip in VLC Player but it played very jerkily -- only a couple of frames every second. WMP played it fairly smoothly.
VLC also told me this is H.264 video so I am not sure where your reference to H.265 came from -- or is that what you converted it to in Format Factory?

Re: videostudio x10 crashes
First Format Factory convert was with default h264, and that is what works. I also did Format Factory seting the codec to h265, and that took forever and the end result was an incredibly small video file that played well in my Win 10 laptop, however this file can't be inserted into X9, nor into X10. I am not sure why I concluded the file was h265.
My VLC on my windows pc (see right panel) plays the file well. Windows Media Player plays the file in my laptop Win 10 well also. Other players I tried in my Win 7 pc can't handle the file.

I was also looking at Format Factory's settings for AVC output, but found that it does not go above 1920 x 1080 so dropped that idea.

My version of Format Factory does h265 for 4K, and I created a 4K version of the video file. Perhaps you need to upgrade?

Re: videostudio x10 crashes
Maybe the problem is with your pc? Doesn't h265 have requirements on Win 10 plus other stuff? I did the Format Factory run in my Win 10 laptop which I know is h265 compatible.

Re: videostudio x10 crashes
No that's not it. In another thread (with erdna/André), I found that my lowly i3 could nonetheless deal with h.265 video -- though admittedly not well -- using the on-board Intel 4400 graphics card, while it would not work at all with the dual NVidia card on this computer which I would have thought much more powerful, but not falling within the hardware requirements of h.265...
But I remain mystified about Format Factory... Mine is version 4.0.0 and I just checked it again and it still says its the latest version...

Re: videostudio x10 crashes
I did some digging Ken. I in fact do not see 4K resolution in Format Factory no matter what conversion is selected. I leave it set to default, and if the original source is 4K, you'll get 4K output file.Ken Berry wrote:I was also looking at Format Factory's settings for AVC output, but found that it does not go above 1920 x 1080 so dropped that idea.
