In VS X9, I searched the "Help Topics" for "Multiplex," but got "(no results)." I then searched for "Combine audio and Video tracks. Again, no results. I looked through table of contents for anything that remotely suggests re-combining or unsplitting audio and video tracks after splitting and editing the audio track (not the video). I don't know for what else I can search.
So I'm guessing that the only way to recombining the audio and video is to click on "Share" then save the file in one of the video format containers, which involves recoding and therefore some loss of video quality. I can live with the latter but am wondering if there is any way to re-combine audio and video tracks without recoding (lossless muxing).
Is there a lossless way to re-combine Audio and Video?

No, this is a sub 100$ software.

Did you save your project? I ask because when VS splits the audio, it does not remove the audio from the video clips. You can split the audio from the video, delete the split audio from the video track, then go to the video tab for the video clip and click on the speaker icon which should show an X through it. The audio is again available.

Re: Is there a lossless way to re-combine Audio and Video?
Hi Djard007
As Ron says we can revert the Split Audio / Video file back to original.
Split Audio does 2 things, it mutes the video clip, then places an audio clip on the voice track.
To revert to original, delete audio clip and un-mute video
However if you have applied filters or edits to the audio, the only way to combine Video and Audio is via Share creating / rendering a new video file.
Choosing Same as First Clip would use the videos properties reducing any loss in quality.
Clearly the render would affect the entire project unless you set a Project Preview Range
Once rendered the new video can be used to replace the original.

Yes, and reverting a split audio in the project would not cause any loss in quality. It's just like using the Undo.asik1 wrote:Guys,

Re: Is there a lossless way to re-combine Audio and Video?
I purchased VS Ultimate because I wanted an all-in-one multimedia editor. Up to now, I was using about 20 different apps to work with video. Being able to demux a clip, enhance the audio then remux has always been a simple task. And since the video track is not altered, no recoding is necessary when remuxing, thereby preserving video quality. I think VS is an excellent program for the money, but I think asik1 is right: I'm expecting too much for an under $100 software. Still, I'm experimenting and think there might be a workaround.

Djard , the fact that VS is an "all-in-one multimedia editor" is it's major culprit, non of it's features is top notch.
Each and every part is just about 50-70% perfect.
The workaround?? is to lower expectations and compromise.

Re: Is there a lossless way to re-combine Audio and Video?
Thanks for the good advice. I'll continue to use AVIDemux for muxing edited audio for preserving original video quality. I see that it is possible to demux audio and video with VS, but it always requires recoding. And I understand that VS is primarily a video editor, with lots of great features.
