Multi Camera Editor X9 - video doesn't play
I have 2 video files in the multi-camera editor, and have selected the audio from #1. When I hit "play" so that I can select #1, #2, #1, etc. I hear the audio from #1, but just see a still (no moving video) in both # 1 & #2 as well as the main screen (upper right).
Have I forgotten a step? I have Smart Proxy enabled.
Thank you!

Hi
Even though you have Smart Proxy enabled have you created Smart Proxy Files.?
View Smart Proxy - File Manager to show clips using Smart Proxy, files having a similar names to video files.

Re: Multi Camera Editor X9 - video doesn't play
Thank you! I checked the smart proxy file manager and see that proxy files have been created. However, the files in the timeline still have the original file name. Is that correct, or am I supposed to switch them somehow?

Re: Multi Camera Editor X9 - video doesn't play
Hi
First I cannot access that link to imgur.com
Although additional proxy files are created the original files do not change and used as normal to edit your project. Proxy files being used in the background ( somehow???)
These normally improve any playback issues experienced in the timelines.
From the Library or Edit timelines a small icon can be seen on the clip when proxy files are being used, (image attached) for some reason these do not show via MCE panel, although have been created and as far as I know are effective using MCE.
I have used MCE with Mpeg4 and MTS type video (upto 1920 x 1080) with no problems, my old pc does need to use proxies.
What type of video are you using?
Right click a clip from the library and choose properties what are they.?

Re: Multi Camera Editor X9 - video doesn't play
They're MPEG-4 files. In properties for video type it says H.264 Main Profile Video, 920 x 1080
I have re-started the computer, changed settings, blah blah blah and still get the same result. When I hit "play" in MCE there is no movement on the videos, just a frozen shot, but the audio is playing..... FRUSTRATED. This project is due in a week. Gah!
I'm going to load VSP on my media server (more powerful computer) and see if I have a different result, but really don't want to have to work on that system (bad location).

Hi
Is that a typo – 920 x 1080, should that read 1920 x 1080.
Do you have the Quicktime codec installed
This post has a link tp YouTube with a useful QuickTime explanation and how to install Codec only.

Whoops, yeah, that's a typo. 1920.
Anyway.... just installed QT essentials only, restarted, same result. Bah! Any other things I can try?

Re: Multi Camera Editor X9 - video doesn't play
Hi
I assume you are running X9 fully patched.
If your files are not to large you could upload to a sharing site (Google Drive , DropBox etc.) where we can download and try on our pc’s
Go Pro files have proved a problem for some, as MCE is also new to X9 I cannot rule out the fact that there may be problems.
But at 1920 x 1080 I would have thought ok?
Do you have any problems in using the main timelines to edit your files?
If editing using MCE I assume the footage was recorded by two cameras at the same time, both having the same audio, is that correct?
Are both videos using the same frame rates?
The video used in camera 1 track will set the frame rate used on the main timeline.

Re: Multi Camera Editor X9 - video doesn't play
Yes, both recorded at the same time - the audio syncing works fine. Then when I hit "play" to do the switch from #1 to #2, etc. nothing moves. The scrubber moves right along and I hear the audio (camera #1), but the videos are just still on the screen.
What do you mean by "fully patched"? I have been using X9 for several months w/ no issues, always download updated content. Just have never used MCE before.
Would appreciate you giving it a shot. Here are the files I've started working with, but this project will ultimately incorporate several more, so I really need to get this figured out <sweating>

Re: Multi Camera Editor X9 - video doesn't play
Hi
Thanks for the samples
The data rate of those files is different with one having a rate of 15000kbps , the other 49000 kbps
I think it is this higher rate that is causing the problems.
I do not know why they are different, have you converted one of the video files, otherwise the camera settings are different?
Looking a little further and using Media Info
One sample uses a constant bit rate as 15000kbps the other boys Queen uses a variable rate max 49.900kbps
Ok I was able to convert the boys queen to a new file using the boys2 Queen properties, not sure if that affects the quality.
Clearly the camera settings seem to be different and correcting those should fix further recordings.
Smart Proxy files
These can only be created from the edit timelines mot from within MCE
I will do a few more tests but maybe tomorrow before I reply again, getting a little late over here.
Post updated
I have been able to use the samples in MCE provided Smart Proxy have been created, as I say the "boys Queen" takes a while to create.
Have those guys taken any singing lessons

Re: Multi Camera Editor X9 - video doesn't play
Thanks so much! Yes, I created the smart proxy files from within MCE, and not just in VSP main. Will try it that way.
I had thought about using a file converter on both files, is that what you did?
Getting late here too, lots going on the rest of the weekend, won't be able to focus on this until MonPM.

Re: Multi Camera Editor X9 - video doesn't play
Hi
Convert using Video Studio, I only converted the one video file
1 / start a new project
2 / add BoysQueen2 to the top timeline, should get a message to match the project settings, view details as ……………
MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 29.97 fps
Frame-based
H.264 Main Profile Video: 15000 Kbps, 16:9
48000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 128 Kbps
YES to that.
3 / project settings match video file using 15000kbps
4 / Remove BoysQueen2
5 / add BoysQueen the 49900kbps version
6 / Share – top of window below “ Create a Video….”– choose Same as Project Settings
7 / view properties panel as above settings.
8 / give it a name and file location
9 / hit start
10 / new thumbnail shows in library, edit tab. Right click for Create Smart Proxy
To access MCE
1 / From Edit Tab - Select 2 clips in library CTRL + Click
2 / right click selection for MCE
3 / opens Browse Manager, clips already selected press OK
4 / Opens MCE editor
I notice the passenger clapped his hands, good idea to help in audio sync, use add markers for manual sync, but program will do automatically.
Expand timeline and switch to “wave form view”

Re: Multi Camera Editor X9 - video doesn't play
Has anyone been able to resolve this issue? I had the same problem on Video Studio X9. I upgraded to VS Ultimate 2018, hoping it would fix the problem. It didn't. I have the same issue.
I tried it with the same files on a different computer (at work) using VS X9 and it works like a charm! I have come to the conclusion that it doesn't like my OS or CPU. Here are the specs on the two computers.
At home (videos won't play in MCE): AMD Athlon Processor (dual) 2.2 GHz, 8GB RAM, Windows 10 64-bit, 2 years old.
At work (works perfectly): Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, 2.93 GHz, 8GB RAM, Windows 7 32-bit, about 6-7 years old.
I would THINK that it would be more likely to work on the newer (home) computer since it has more RAM (although a slower processor). Maybe it doesn't like Windows 10? Maybe I should have stuck with Intel.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Multi Camera Editor X9 - video doesn't play
Hi
Just tried MCE in 2018 and came up with a problem
Add 4 video clips to editor
The 4 camera angles show ok in left hand panel, 4 separate videos.
Select first camera angle
Play
All 4 camera angles revert to displaying first camera view.
Cannot view Cameras 2, 3 or 4
This makes it impossible to use MCE, I believe this is a new problem within 2018
What do you see?
I do not have this problem using X10.
As for the playback issues with earlier programs, my test files, Mpeg4 are small at 4 minutes, when i have used MTS i also have to use Smart Proxy for smoothe playback.
