Video capture plug in.

Post by Rollason »

On attempting to use 'Capture' to capture some video from my camcorder I get the following dialogue box.
'Failed to initialize capture plug in. Another programme may be using it or the file has been moved'.
'Open driver failed'.
'Cannot create the video capture filter'.
This is preventing me from capturing video, as it implies. I have no other programme running that could cause this. If it is the driver that is at fault is there somewhere where I can download the driver? Would reinstalling the programme help? Your assistance would appreciated. Many thanks, Roy.

Hi
What type of camcorder are you using

If the camcorder uses sd card then you transfer the files to the pc, using the card as a removable drive.

If using video studio, right click time line and choose Import Digital Media, then select the camera

Roy -- you need to tell us what sort of camcorder you have. Does it use a tape (and is thus DV or HDV)? Or does it record to an SD card? High definition or standard? Knowing these things might make it easier for us to offer solutions. Without the info, we would be just guessing.

OK. I'll try that. I didn't realise that double clicking the Timeline would connect the camcorder, which is a tape camcorder using Climax Digital to change analogue to digital.

No -- if your camcorder uses a tape and you have it connected to the Climax Digital capture device (which I assume is connected to your computer via USB cable), then it is highly likely nothing you can do will make Video Studio "see" the incoming video. Usually, capture devices come with their own capture software, and the idea is to use this to capture the video, then open the captured video in Video Studio for editing.

There are hundreds of capture devices out there, and the great majority of them have been tweaked to only work with their own capture software. Their makers are unwilling to share their software "secrets" with companies like Corel. So it is very rare that software like Video Studio will work when these capture devices are being used.

Thanks Ken., I guessed that was the case. I'm transferring some tapes to DVD using an old camcorder and it's proving interesting! ie. not that straightforward.
