Need to get rid of a video background.

Post by OM4 »

I need to get rid of the background for a video.
A snapshot of the video I have is given on the following link:

www.moviecharts.com/dummy/dummyPicture.JPG

The character in the video has been cut out.
What I need to do is take out the background and just have the character.

OK... yes... I now know that I should have taken the video with a blue or green background... or failing that a pure white background.

Unfortunately, I've only got the video I have and we can't do a retake.
I've tried dabbling with After Effects and haven't really got anywhere.

I've got Ulead 9.0, but I'm a bit lost.
The Chroma key seems to be really fiddly and hard to use. :(
And besides, it doesn't really seem to do the job.

ANY help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

You really haven't done yourself any favours, an evenly lit background
would have been a good start. I would create a frame by frame hand
drawn travelling matte. If you want to do this accurately and the video
is of any duration over a few seconds then the work involved is astronomical.

Change your approach, go for a crude cut out/stencil feel, find a style
that fits the footage you have.
