PSP x9 will not run

Post by _lifesjourney_ »

I purchased PSP x9 (not ultimate) last week. Since then I have been unable to run the program. When I attempt to run the program it shows up in the "windows task manager" for a moment then disappears. I did have a very old Jasc PSP program installed but I uninstalled it to make sure there was no program compatibility issues.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times.
I have attempted to "run as administrator".
I have attempted to run using [shift] to restore defaults.

I uninstalled all corel products and files including:
Corel Graphics windows shell extension
Ghostscript GPL 8.64

Any thoughts around other compatibility issues would be appreciated. It would seam the program is being blocked somewhere.

I haven't gone past x8 yet. But every now and again PSP will hang on start up. Administrator will show it running. The solution I have found to work is to double click on the PSP icon again. (Sometimes simply closing PSP and starting again works). This will often 'wake up' PSP. I have done a search but you should be able to find similar issues in previous posts.

Good luck.

Whenever I have a problem like this I open Task Manager and look in the Background Processes section. If there is an entry for Corel PSP I right click on it to end that process. Then I go back to the desktop and click on the PSP icon to restart it. This usually works.

Yes, I have viewed the processes function and it does not appear.

I have also attempted to load the progrom by going through a picture but that does not work either. Speaking with Corel support now. I will update when I find more info.

I see you have a "500" hardrive. Gigas ?
Do you have enough place ?
Some downloaded PSP versions need an internet connection and Protexis Licensing. I don't know for X9.
Also try to desactivate your antivirus, just for verifying if something is wrong there.

Have you tried installing both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions? They both should run under 64-bit Windows.

(However, you can't run the 32-bit version and 64-bit versions of the same "X" number simultaneously. In other words, you could run 32-bit X8 and 64-bit X9 simultaneously but not 32 and 64 X9.)

Ghostscript is generally used with GIMP. It should have no effect on PSP.

Also, regarding PSP itself, there is no difference between "regular" and Ultimate. Ultimate is "regular" plus a bunch of add-ins that get installed after PSP is installed, and you don't have to install any of them. For instance, I never install the Creative Content, because that is additional brushes, tubes, etc., and since I basically only do photo retouching I never use those.
