BEWARE OF X10 ULTIMATE

Post by heagney »

BEWARE OF VIDEO STUDIO ULTIMATE X10 -- The ability to burn Blu Ray discs is NOT included in the purchase price. Blu Ray capability was INCLUDED in Ultimate X9. For X10, you will be charged an additional $7.99 to download a Blu Ray plug-in. This is the first time I've ever experienced a NEW and IMPROVED version of anything that DELETES features from a previous version. Keep in mind that I'm not upset paying $7.99 for the plug-in. I'm upset by the WAY in which this was handled. If the charge for X10 Ultimate had been increased by $7.99 on the front end, I would have paid for it. No questions. But to charge for such a vital part of the software ON THE BACK END is just poor business practice.

Thanks for sharing, but I for one like this approach. You see, I do not burn DVD's nor BlueRay's; in fact, I have not burned DVD's for more than three years. Most of my family who dominate my customers do not even have DVD players any more.

I also haven't burned a DVD for a long time. Why would I when Blu Ray is the go-to format for movies, which are released regularly on this format. I burn Blu Rays of vacations, etc., so the format remains current.

Incorrect statement heagney, the last version to include the blue-ray plugin was VSX7, since then it has been necessary to purchase the plugin, on the basis that not many users now burn Blue-ray, so why should they pay a license fee for something they don't want or need

Not sure where you are located, but in the USA streaming of movies is the current dominant way most people watch movies. Blue Ray may be the last format used to distribute movies, and IMHO is on the way out.

I can't even find BR burners or discs at the local BestBuy or Staples. 3D TVs have also disappeared.

SD DVDs remain the most cost effective means of distributing our annual music performance and I much prefer to watch that video on a big screen TV.

I agree with the OP. When convention is bucked, it is always a negative experience. I doubt retaining a feature costs the publisher anything. If Corel continues the practice, it is heading towards offering a bare-bones product that comes with a myriad of fees for all the plugins that became custom features. And you know that buying a car from a dealer is more economical and practical than buying it from a parts department. Juz my 'pinion. No rack, just a 'pinion.

Hi

As far as I know, if you have purchased the X9 Bluray plugin, then from X10 help – Restore Purchase should activate Bluray plugin, provided you provide X9 purchase details.
May be your e-mail address used for the x9 purchase.

Hi,

I can confirm the previous post with one exception: if you purchased the BR plugin with X9 you can get it back with "Help/Restore the purchase" option only in X9, but not in X10. This is what I did, so I'm using X10 for editing and sharing a video file, then switch to X9 for burning BR.

Wrong. Did you not read RobertOz reply stating that Corel (or anyone else for that matter) have to pay a license fee for each bluray license on each product. If they add it to say, 10,000 X10U products and only 1,000 use it, Corel has lost money. How would they know if it's profitable to include it? They knew by how many were activated when it was available.
Like many others, I haven't burned much of anything over the years.....

I, for one, do want to burn DVD's (not BluRay) with "My DVD" in VS X10 but was wondering if there is a way to do that without having a theme. I just want the DVD to play with out having to do anything other than inserting the DVD into the player. Also, is there a place to pick between 4:3 and 16:9? If so, where?? Thanks! Using Win 10, 64 bit.

Anyone have any idea as to why when I put an MP4 file into VS X10 that is 02:01:20 in length it shows a length of 02:00:58? It actually cuts the end off of it! Thanks for any help. :?:

Came across your post, and I think the reason that you're not finding them there has to do more with people moving away from the brick and mortar to on-line purchasing. The physical stores will lose money if the merchandise just sits on shelves and is not moving. This really hits them when they have to pay inventory taxes. I don't know if Canada has the same thing as we do in US. Stores have for quite some time, tried to keep inventory down so they can reduce that tax.

With the popularity of on-line retail, such as Amazon, local stores can not compete. The on-line retail is able to provide items at far less cost to them, and thus far less cost to consumers, because they intentionally cut out the local stores. They use fulfillment centers, big warehouses. The big difference is the turn-around time, how fast the customers can get their items. I worked for a short time at Jet.com, which is now owned by Walmart. There is one department, where someone is manning a computer that shows the order the minute a customer submits it. That order can literally be picked off of the shelves, packaged, and put onto a truck within a couple hours. The average number of orders filled in one day is in the neighborhood of 15k, yes that's 15,000 orders. These fulfillment centers handle orders that are placed through a lot of actual, physical retail stores. Amazon was the big pioneer of this. If you buy off of Amazon look at where the order is comeing from, the "retailer". It might say from Joe Smoes Electronics, Fulfilled by Amazon. Joe Smoes, sort of uses Amazon as a drop-shipper. Amazon's warehouses are where that item is actually coming from, not Joes. Here's an example of the availability of Blu Ray..
Blue Ray Players (Jet.com site)
Blue Ray Discs (again Jet.com)
Corel's Products Jet.com

So they are available, just are not enough people buying them now to be profitable for local stores to keep them in stock.
