Problem inserting new media into track begining

Post by ArtistScope »

The problem I have is when inserting new media into the beginning or middle of a track that I have to manually move too many other parts to accommodate it. Ok, so I can CTRL-SHIFT from the insertion point forward to move everything forward from there, but I that doesn't select the text and sounds in other tracks. Yes, I can select ALL which is useful for inserting anything at the very beginning of the track, but that is of no use when inserting elsewhere in the track.

The same problem occurs when adjusting the duration of any media... everything else following it needs to be individually adjusted.

Surely, this problem has been raised before, so I am wondering if there is an option for "insert and adjust to accommodate new media"?

The function you need is called "Ripple editing"

if you look at the left end of the timeline you will see a number of small padlocks - clicking on the top one will enable ripple editing and then you need to click on the other padlocks to lock them to the top one

note that ripple editing locks every thing to the top track - so inserting clips in the top tracks mill move every thing in the locked tracks - if you insert in other tracks the same does not apply

Thanks, that looks interesting.

I did try Shift selecting the parts to move but that didn't work.

Next time I will start building on the top track to utilise the Ripple Editing feature
