VS X9 and VS X10 Playback Freezes
Hi,
I've upgraded to VS X10 as VS X9 was freezing on playback, but VS X10 does the same
Sometimes I get upto 2 secs playback then it stops.
The files are MPEG-4 XAVC.
It says the video is H264 468 frames 24 bits 3840 x 2160 @25 frames but i'm sure I recorded them at 100fps
I've tried creating a proxy file at 720 x 480 but it still does the same.
Any Ideas Welcome, my pc is a decent spec so I was not expecting any problems, especially when it says vs X10 is optimised for i7 which mine is.

Re: VS X9 and VS X10 Playback Freezes
468 frames at 100 fps is less than 5 seconds worth of video! What camera captured this video clip? What is your Project settings? Does the video play in Windows Media Player?
More details from you might allow us to give more ideas. Provide what edits you are doing: any trimming, any filters, any transitions? Are you able to Render/Share a video clip without any edits?

Hi, your system might be nice and strong but where does it say that X9 or X10 support HFR video?DamianAdams wrote:Hi,

Another question: is the video XAVC or XAVC-S? As far as I am aware, Video Studio only supports XAVC-S.

I've checked the Sony FDR-AX100E camera and it says the followingKen Berry wrote:Another question: is the video XAVC or XAVC-S? As far as I am aware, Video Studio only supports XAVC-S.
100bps / 25p / XAVC S 4K
I noticed if i drag two clips on different timelines and play them together it seems to do the playback fine.
sorry if not very clear but i'm new to high res video, life was much easier with avi files

Re: VS X9 and VS X10 Playback Freezes
so going back to basics, what i've found is that using the built in samples both with and without hardware aceleration.
Nothing works as project for playback in any configuration but you can scrub the files ok
.MP4 files play for almost exactly 2 seconds when playing clips
.wmv play as clips
If I add an overlay track the mp4 will play as clips as long as they start together, or if mp4 is just added as an overlay.
I've updated the GTX 970 to the latest drivers.
Maybe its the build of windows ( 15063 ready for developer update next few weeks) or some needed codecs are missing.
any help would be great.

Hi Damian
I do not use 4K video, don’t think my older pc will cope with that.
But if you can upload a sample to a sharing site, Microsoft One Drive, Google Drive or DropBox we can download and try on our pc’s
I will certainly give it a go.
I realise XAVC S 4K will be quite large so keep that in mind when uploading.
When you created those Smart Proxy files, did you give the process long enough to complete as they will take quite a while.
View settings Smart proxy File Manager which should show the appropriate proxy file.
Also a small icon will show on the clip after proxies have been created.
If you continue to have problems you should contact Corel Support, we do not work for Corel, just volunteers helping others on the forum, we can only give guidance or suggest workrounds, we cannot fix the program, that’s Corels domain.

Re: VS X9 and VS X10 Playback Freezes
I am thinking your expectations might be the problem. Complex video projects with overlays, filters, transitions, edits (trims, cuts, etc) will have a tough time playing in project mode in a smooth way with even modern high performance pcs. The problem is worse when project settings (formats are different than video clip sources). Even when playing on project mode is far from smooth, rendering (sharing) the project should result in smooth video files. Have you tried to create a project video output (use Share tab)? If that output does not play well in your pc outside of VS, then this is a problem.DamianAdams wrote:so going back to basics, what i've found is that using the built in samples both with and without hardware aceleration.

Re: VS X9 and VS X10 Playback Freezes
??? If you read the post I have the problem with the SUPPLIED sample files ( as well as the 4K files) there is no trims edits or any other thing than trying to add ONE overlay which seems to help playback for some reason. If the playback on project cannot play Two standard sample files supplied by Corel, what is it supposed to be used for!!!

Re: VS X9 and VS X10 Playback Freezes
Damian, if you can't play sample files in a fresh run of VS , than the problem is somewhere on your system , as you can imagine all of us here and hundreds out there do play those samples fine.

Re: VS X9 and VS X10 Playback Freezes
Hi Damian
Sorry I must admit in missing that important statement that you are having problems in using the Samples from the programs Media Library.
In that case I guess that you are having trouble with all video types.
The library samples contain mpeg4 and WMV type video, are you having the same problem using both these types.
If the problem is with Mpeg4 then can you try installing the QuickTime codec, do not install the player just the codec.
