video editor 7 squishing pictures

I am using video editor 7 and importing still photos from my camera to creat a video file. Problem is the pictures that are tall are being stretched and squished so that everything looks funny. I cant for the life of me find the place in the software to stop that from happening. I know that there has to be a simple setting but I am new to using the software and would appreciate help. Thank you

Open "file" "preferences" "edit." You get two choices, "fit to project" or "keep aspect ratio." Select keep aspect ratio.

I tried that and it still did not make a difference. Do I have to adjust the pictures in size when i edit them first? But thank you I was hoping it would help

The settings given will not work on previously imported images, you have to remove them in your timeline and add them again or create a new project.

Make sure you have the standard frame size. Try changing your project settings, go to project properties or press alt-enter. Click Edit, Compression, then choose your standards from the Media type. NTSC or PAL then DVD, SVCD, or VCD. ^_^
