Relinking Files
Hi I have been working on a project for several months without any problems. When I opened it today I could see all the files loading inbut the vast majority of files came up as blank. I know in the past it has been a case of relinking the first file and the others have then followed. This time this has not happened and I really cannot face relinking the whole lot. Any reason why this should've happened? And how to resolve quickly? The majority of the files are on an external drive (which I obviously have connected). Thanks in advance.

Re: Relinking Files
Hi
Try opening the project again, then relink to the first file.

Re: Relinking Files
The need to relink often occurs when your video clips are on an external drive. When you start your project, your external drive will have a drive letter e.g. it could be J:\ -- but later you close the project and open it again. However, you have inserted another USB device and then reinsert your original external drive, and this time it is assigned (by Windows) the drive letter K:\. Then when you open your project, Video Studio will be looking for J:\ drive and not K:\.
Apart from relinking, you can avoid this problem by "permanently" assigning a drive letter to that external drive. Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management. This will bring up a Window showing all your connected drives including the external drive. Right click on that one and select "Change drive letter and paths". Assign it J:\ (or whatever letter you want to match the original letter used in your VS project). Then next time you open that project, VS should be seeing the correct external drive and relinking will not be necessary.
