Hi Guys
Getting bogged down trying to simulate the changes from very early morning through daylight and on into night time.
I need to make sure the subjects are well lit but the background and sky can change.
Here is the test video I am using.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHx571whR2E
I'd like it to start off in the early morning, head into day time and end up at night having gone through evening with the warm colours that brings.
I have been playing with the Day for night effect however I am not getting what I need.
I started off with a good early morning look and set key frames to head towards day time (all at zero) and then on to night but the settings move as you progress and the changes are not what I wanted.
Can you help please?
Regards
Mike

Re: Early morning - day time - evening to night effect
Hi Mike
I would be tempted in recording the sky, several times at 2 minutes.
Early morning, then about eleven oclock, two oclock, 6 oclock and a night / dusk shot
Add those to the top timeline with a 30 sec crossfade
Your train video in the overlay track with Chroma Key to remove blue sky.
Use a second overlay to add a grey colour clip having transparency (colour mask) could change the foreground brightness.

That's a good idea, but I really want to try and apply the effect to what I have if at all possible.

Hi
Is the test video the final file you want to turn day in to night? If so, it is not so good, way to much sky, as lata alluded to. Lata has given you a great tip re Overlay/Chroma key the blue sky out.
Use the search engine of your choice and look for "Video day into night". A lot of tutorials for various NLEs. Basically turn down Saturation, use RGB curves (or similar). pull down White levels, take out Red and increase Blue. Patience and experimentation will assist.
Reverse the effect for daytime - increasing Red (yellow/orange hues) reducing Blue and upping Saturation.
